What shade of color have the offspring of the 1385 jutras been like?

Hypothetical Situation:
IF you had this plant in your patch would you use the 1385 to pollinate your prize 772 poirier fruit in hopes of a big orange offspring??

Thanks for the replies!!

I like this cross and have thought about doing it myself. the problem is you will likely breed the red-orange out the the 772. The resulting offspring will be big and orange, just not red-orange. The next step would be to put someting red-orange back into it!

This is much the same delema as my 993 (772 x 998). What will it produce. Likely big and orange, likely not as pretty as the moma!

250 Perham 2008 = 772 x 1385...

and the pollinator grew 1467 pounder with medium color and great shape. Doesn't get much better than that.

I am going to try the reverse 1385 x 772 this year with the hopes of keeping that red-orange color in the pollinator... no guarentee what color the 1385 will be, but I could get lucky.

So what do you guys think of the 895 Grande 08 (1016 Daletas X 1385 Jutras)?

What will the offspring of this titan look like?

I'm gonna guess that the pollinator for the 895 was Jimmy's 1087. One of the biggest pumpkins ever grown in colorado, but not a howard dill award winner, lol.

Unfortunately, I think there's only one way to figure out what the offspring of the 895 will look like.

I did a 772.2 x 1689 cross last year. This might also have some chance of throwing big and orange, but like CountyKid says, the offspring, (like the 1385), will probably not have the 772 red-orange progeny. It would probably have to be bred back into it.

I think Todd Kline's 970 from last year (772.2 x 1250.5 Kline)will produce some nice beautiful big orange ones.

PumpkinPicker, my Dad grew a 1385 Jutras (to a little over 100 lbs) but it was really bright bright Orange. I seen a few 1385's throw some really orange ones, but not many.

the 1385 being a close relative to the 1068 will not come with a color guarentee. much like the 1068 it can throw off a variaty of colors.
but believe you me if your talking competition and size? the 1385 is a must have seed.
color can always be brought back in the following season if need be.

The SNGPG had a number of 1385 entries at our 2008 weigh off. Two of those entries won awards. One 1385 took the Howard Dill Award the other won the "rUSH TO fLUSH". I entered a 1385 Topsfield Fair in 2008 that weighed 973.5 and also won the Howard Dill Award. Peter

Pap's right about there being no guarantee. However the 1385 has grown a couple of beautiful pumpkins, so it could happen again.

Take a look at Quinn Werner's 1483.5 from the 1385 Jutras. I can't imagine a better looking pumpkin.
