How many big pumpkins have been grown with the 1308 being on the male side of the seed? Has there been very many seeds even grown with the 1308 on the male side? or will this question be answered this year after it gets grown more?

The 1115.5 Nesbitt and the 965 and 897 Pukos had it as a pollinator, the 965 grew a 1219.5 in '08 and that was Joe's biggest. The 1521 Werner and the 1490 and 1446 Rose had the 1308 pollinator, but they were '08 pumpkins.

Brooks,
I have a very in-depth posting regarding pollinators. In short, the 1308.5 McKie is a top notch choice if you have it. 6 pumpkins over 1200 pounds as a pollinator.

Wait a second here, I need to clarify what Im trying to say, sorry guys,
Im wanting to know what a seed has grown with the 1308 already being in the back ground( as the pollinator), Not what it is crossed with that hasn't grown anything yet,,, Like for instance, the 1290 hasn't been grown yet so we dont know how that seed will do until someone grows it. Follow me?

I see the 965 grew a nice one with the 1308 being in the back ground. I over looked that pumpkin.

What 6 pumpkins over 1200 lbs are you talking about Goopson, this ones?

the 1631 Mckie (1041 Mckie x 1308 Mckie) that grew 4 over 1100 lbs, biggest one being the 1231 Jutras 08'

and the 965 Pukos (998 Pukos x 1308 Mckie) grew the 1290 Pukos.

Im just trying to figure out why Jerry and those guys like crossing the 1308 into everything, has to be because of the 1631 it grew for sure.

Brooks , I'm not sure why Jerry and Quinn used the 1308 . But I do know both those top notch growers are way ahead of me. ( a million miles ) so thats why I'm going to cross the 1521 Werner x 1428 Revier. that way I've got the 1308 and the 1041 Mckie together. hoping that makes a good pollinater plus the 1370 , 1068 , 1161 in the mix maybe a good producer

Brooks,
I only came across two progeny over 1200 lbs., off seeds where the 1308 was the male, on the AGGC. It doesn't mean there aren't more, as the AGGC doesn't list every pumpkin grown.
Good question on why some growers used it quite a bit as a pollinator. Maybe being there wasn't many 1308's, they wanted to keep the genetics alive as a pollinator. Being it grew a pumpkin over 1500 lbs....that may have influenced people to use it as a pollinator in 2008.

Hi Doug,
yea, I was wondering about that myself, I was thinking there might be a few more pumpkins out there besides the ones on the aggc that I didnt know about.

I seen the 1556 pumpkin that Quinn grew off that 1308 and I gotta say it was impressive, he had to build a special made skid for it to fit on. Look like a over sized king size bed!

ok gotta mention something else since you brought that 1556 up Doug,,lol,
I often wonder what kind of weigh that 1556 really would have had if it stood tall, or had a somewhat normal pumpkin shape to it , cause it definitely had the long shape, now if you just add the height to it then your really gonna have a monster,,,, Its hard to say what that pumpkin would have weighed?! But then again, maybe the reason for its shape was because of gravity pulling the top down,''who really knows?'' but at any rate, it sure was a heck of a pumpkin. The 1566 is one of the reasons Im growing the 1413, I think thats gonna be a great seed.

The reason I used the 1308 as a pollinator is because it doesn't have deep ribs or a lot of dill rings. The hole idea is to breed some of the problems out of some of the lines so we can get a pumpkin that will be as split free as possible. I know Jerry really liked the shallow ribs in the 1308 offspring and I believe that's why he used it so much this past year as a pollinator.
