Sounds possible to me.

I think that there are already a few lines for big heavy fruit that tend to not have them.

Maybe it is just as easy as not planting seeds from stock known to produce Dill rings, and not from ones that had dill rings in them themselves.

With size and weight there will eventually be a point of diminishing returns, and at that point I imagine there will be more focus put into color and shape, as well as having more flawless fruits since this is an area where more improvement could be made after weights start hitting that physics issue.

Another thing may be it is nessicary to remove those types of weak spots from lines in order to get past certain points in weight. Dill rings make serious weak spots, and that is a major problem in anything really big. There is the basic rule that more spherical objects distribute pressure more evenly, but a big divot can easily ruin that.

I like the 1689 Jutras WR for example. Sure she was Salmon color, but her shape was very nice, and she was flawless. Joe even said there were no Dill rings or internal cracks. That did not surprise me, because at that size any flaw of that kind would lower the chance of it making it to the scale. The bigger it gets, the more important that gets.

Wiz, you may grow a 100 seeds in a row from that pumpkin that wont ever throw a Dill ring, you just never know, For the most part I myself dont fall into if a pumpkin has had a Dill ring the pogeny will also.

Heres a question for ya, name me some pumpkins thats had a Dill Ring that the seedS from that pumpkin also grew Dill ring pumpkins?

Those are just the questions that occurred to me Brooks. Is any of this kind of info available on the AGGC? Seems to me that it has to be at least partially genetically controlled what with the turks turban variety being an extreme case.

i'm not mr genetics by any means but for the 1st time looked over the aggc site there is a lot of information there but we still have questions above and beyond what's covered (and some of those questions i don't even think the grower can answer) and i was looking at the pictures of the pumpkins and you can see those with deep ribs or dill rings but like brooks said not every seed is the same and to add to that not everyones soil and weather is the same and do those factors have a roll in those things happening to our pumpkins

I really wanted BIZ to plant hiZ ICeBreaker because that 1385 Jutras had a lot of Wallace in it and threw long fruit....In my mind, thats important on weigh off day if you want to be at the top......

The 1385 also threw the 1483 Werner, and that one was very round and high in shape. 11.8% heavy too.

I actually like that shape a lot, just because it looks more like a classic pumpkin.

I agree BrookZ...He thinks due to the Dill Ring iZ gonna do it again and I rather think by crossing it with my 651 that had no dill rings inside and went 1019 itZ worth a try.....
