Is it OK to have all plants from the same fruit?

Thanks

hey you

Greencastle, PA

The only problem i can forsee with that plan is that if the seed stock does not thrive in your environment, it means that none of your plants will instead of just one. Diversity is advantageous for that reason. However, if you're growing seeds from a pumpkin that was grown locally, that may not be much of a concern.

Dick Wallace made another good point when this topic came up before: if it's a valuable seed stock, you'll be upset if you lose all of them in one year after a hail storm or flood or some other problem that might happen

The upside is that you will be able to choose the best plant from all of the progeny you grew. It will also give you a better idea of what the seedstock is likely to produce.

If the seed has not been grown before ? Than its risky ! Because some seed stocks do have problems ,even when bolt parents were great plants! I did that before And it was mistake!! Unless you have some other plants to & can afford to loose a few ,,, Chances are they will be ok but its still risky move!!

multiple planting of unproven seeds is a reach for sure
however, multiple plantings of a proven seed stock? to me
has a lot of advantages.

for example, if you plant four xxxx proven seeds you have increased your chances that one or two out of the four could be that extra special one?

this planning is just for the competitive grower. if your just interested in growing a pretty pumpkin ,etc? then id plant many different seeds.
