I am thiking I want to pollinate in a controlled manner but at the same time get somthing more like the bees would produce.

Thus, I am thinking I would like to try pollinating a single pumpkin with pollen from it's own plant ( a self) and from another plant I am growing.

Do I need to mix the pollen before hand in some manner? Or do I just pollinate with a couple of males each, getting even coverage over all lobes.

What would happen if 1/2 the lobes were pollinated with the self and 1/2 with the other plant?

Remember, the pollen has no impact on the fruit you are growing this year. Only on the seeds you are producing inside the pumpkin! If some of the lobes are pollinated with pollen from one male and others with different males, the resulting seeds would have different genetics. you can't fertilize the same seed with tow different males. If you mix the pollen, only the genetics of one or the other will "get r done"

if you going to use more than 1 plant, you might as well just leave it open pollinated because nobody will want the seeds. No offense, but there are just to many good seeds out there to pick something that is unknown.

I pollinate with 1 male all the time. If you thinking of this because your short on pollen, dont.

After reading the postings above and lot of email help from Neal Leland, I see the error of my ways LOL.

I will stick to pollinating with just one male!

1 grain of pollen is all that will take no matter how many you used.

One female + one male = one pumpkin

Use one male.
