hey you

Greencastle, PA

This seed needs more attention. The 1385, 1207, 985, 904, and 1161 are now taking up most of the proverbial radar screen, yet despite being planted less, the 1556.5 has been competitive against these seeds. This year, Bill Neptune planted one and grew a 1503-pound pumpkin that won the Barnesville weigh-off and placed 15th in the world. Last year, Quinn Werner grew a 1413.5 on a 1556.5, Chuck Ellsworth grew a 968.5 and 958 on the same 1556.5 plant and Steve Sperry grew a 1271 on his 1556.5. I've planted a 1556.5 twice and have been impressed by both plants, although I only managed to grow a 478.5 in 2008 and a 421 est. in 2009.
The 1556.5 is a killer cross, 1308.5 McKie x 985 Werner. The 1308.5 got its genes from the best 1139 Sherwood and an impressive 1370 Rose. The 985 speaks for itself, it grew 4 of the top 25 pumpkins this year.
Give this seed some more respect while you're thinking about what to plant next year. I'm going to skip a year and plant my 421 est. (1556.5 x 1354 Checkon) instead, but I plan on planting my last 1556.5 in the future.

1556.5 Werner grew a 1252 Pounder also in Georgia. The plant does well in the Heat and Humidity also. I would definetly plant another one.

I grew one this year but couldn't get a fruit to set. This patch is set on kill ... I either get a big one or nothing sets. Plant was huge and perhaps too healthy... it had a crown as big as my boot!

One sure way to get the attention is to make sure All the Clubs (Including the Elk Grove Group:) get a suffiecient amount of the specimens. Forget the bubbles, make'em join the Clubs-
