last year i had seeds in the blossum of a pumpkin that showed now signs of splitting all year and had a good seed count in the end. i remember reading that "seeds in the blossum" was a common problem last year and wondering for any of you that had seeds in the blossum and had to stay with that fruit, did you see any effects in the long run in splitting or seed count or abnormalities of any kind?

I had a couple of seeds in the blossom and 1 deformed lob, I almost culled it but I ended up growing my 1172 singleton with no problems at all. When I cut it open, no internal splits and the blossom was 8 inch's thick. The only thing I noticed was the side of the pumpkin with the deformed blossom grew slower, but it caught up, the pumpkin ended up nice shape. Seeds count was about 450.
This was grown off the 1385 Jutras.

my seeds in the blossom were also on my 1385 plant that produced my 1173. no internal failures or abnormalities accept having some pretty thin walls overall and going lite.
i stayed with it this year becasue the year before i had a 1041 blossom with an extra tooth like mutant half formed lobe sticking out of it and was a trouble free pumpkin and went 15% heavy. my conclusion is that if you have a better growing fruit on a vine early on with a deformed blossom, do not necassarily count on culling it. let it do its thing maybe a bit before culling it and if it is your only option, go with it. now that is only with my experience. i would still like to get as much input as possible. i know quinn said he was having problems with seeds in blossoms last year but not sure if he grew any to maturity with them.

Frank the 1385 was selfed, I tried to cross it with the 1507 Jutras, but the males on the 1507 were sterile. I came in 10th at Frerichs Farm.

I had a nasty "seeds in blossum" deal with one plant, but time was wasting and I took the set. Ended up growing a nice shape that went over the chart, internal structure was perfect with no flaws, seed count average. Pics in the diary.

with more info, we might not need to worry about seeds in blossoms. this is the reason i started this thread. i really only get 3 chances in my prime zone on each plants main at 11'-13', 13'-15' and 15'-17. culling the first one immediately if it has seeds in the blossom was my old practice before 2 years ago. out of necessity, 2 years have passed with trouble free pumpkins with ugly blossoms. so now, if i have 2 females on the main growing and the one with seeds in the blossom is faster out of the gate, i will not automatically go with the more normal looking blossom. if both growing at the same rate, i then would cull the ugly blossom to increasing my chances of normal growth. more input is needed to give a better indication of normal growth vs abnormal growth and splits with seeds in blossom or defrormed lobe pumpkins compared to normal healthy looking blossomed females.

I had seeds in the blossoms of almost every pumpkin that I set. I didnt notice any problems. Had some low seed counts(not sure if thats related). Kevin
