I have a seed that has a small dark spot on the root end looks like its under the shell, is this something to worry about? thanks for any help TTOP

oooh....i dont think its the seed...sounds like early stage - optic rectitus,soon you wont be able to see s#$%, just kidding, i have no idea what the dark spots are about. i hope it germinates for you though..good luck

Sometimes you can get a mold stain on a seed. If it's just one spot I wouldn't worry too much. If it spreads, like some of the LG seeds I received this year, get rid of it.

I have had a few seeds like that, I think its because the seeds wasn't completely dry when they was put in the seed envelope. Usually for me if its just a little spot it didnt hurt anything as long as it doesnt go deep through the shell and inside the seed. Scrape it off with your nail and put a dab of fungicide on it.

I would not worry. Andy and Brooks are correct with the mold answer.

There are also situations where pumpkins are on display and some of the seeds start to mold inside the pumpkin. I have had no problems germinating seeds with mold spots.

After you file the edge of the seed, soak the seed in a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water.

Good luck with that seed.
