I have this seed coming from a trade, and I'm thinking of growing it this year. I'd like to hear your experiences with this seed. How'd the plant and pumpkin do, etc.?

Doug that is a dark horse in the world of orange growers for sure. Look at that 1028 Gienger wow. But the other offspring- not to take away from the fact that there are 4 over 1000... are not exactly lookers. And I know what your take is on orange pumpkins. Definitely worth the square footage though, if you are willing to gamble.

Jim,
The 1028 Gienger was awesome! I would have guessed it came out of the 772 Poirier. I had the pleasure to see it in person. I'm planing on growing the 1348 Hester, and am thinking the 1110 Wallace might be a good cross for it. I think both the 1348 and 1110 have the potential to go quite orange(I realize they could be lighter colored as well). If I grow both, I hope I they are both on the dark side of the orange spectrum.

1110 Wallace is the same cross as the 904 stelts isn't it?

1370 Rose x 1068 Wallace?

For that matter have any of the 1347 Wallace turned out so good looking? It is the reverse of that cross isn't it?

I'll be trying a seed from that 1028 this year and it is 1110 x 1347, so all its genes are 1370 Rose and 1068 Wallace. Cannot go wrong there.

I just pray she turns out as pretty as her mother. That 1028 was something to behold. Hard to explain a color that is both dark and bright.

Few pictures of the 1028 I took at the contest on 29Sept2009.

What a sturdy brute she was too! After having sat under the snow for the full month in October she was still solid, just had faded a bit in skin color. Any lesser pumpkin would have turned to mush as soon as it got warmed back up even the slightest. She made a very strong and sturdy carving medium.

Picture of her in her final carved state, at the Mariucci Hockey center with Travis himself:

Doug my 1110 was a super simple plant to grow, not crazy pumpkin growth but it didnt quit, nice vines, leaves, etc! I am growing one right now and was supposed to cross it with the 1348 but I opted for another plant! I hope it goes just as nice as last years! The 1028 is a fierce plant as of right now it is crazy, shooting two new leaves a day! Cant wait!

Good luck Travis!!!
I have two 1348 Hester plants and one 1110 Wallace plant growing. The taproot(correct term?) of the 1110 was about 3 times thicker than normal. I hope the plant develops normally.
It will be interesting to see how the 1028 performs this year.
