Keep yourself glued to this site throughout the winter for seeds and advice. Chat is a great way to ask questions of actual growers, but be courteous and patient. There will be several seed auctions on this site throughout the winter, but I would keep it simple at first and just ask a grower for seeds. There are many growers willing to help out a first-timer.
Now is the time to get a soil sample tested. Figure out where you are going to grow and take several core samples 8 inches deep. I recommend a soil test by Midwest Labs through Craig Lembke at lembkefarm.com.
Maybe someone from the IGPGA will chime in here and get in contact with you.

I agree with giantpumpkindude. Get a soil test, try to contact a local grower (post a thread in the new growers board requesting a grower to contact you in your local area). READ as much as you can on this site. Join the chats, listen and ask questions. Post an email address on this thread and you will get replies. Heck, check out my diary and if you want some of my seeds, send me and email cntryboy764@yahoo.com and I'll send you some.
