I'm curious how different people choose their seeds and why.
I do it mostly on the power on both sides theory: Big mother and big pollinator. Big grandparents would be a bonus.

Thanks guys. I was actually thinking about picking seeds for weight only.

1- proven seeds 2- my own seeds
For someone else's unproven - someone who has grown my seeds before, I try to return the favor at least once a year.
For a random seed to catch my eye, it should have good size on mother and father side. "Unrelated" is nice, but not usually practical. Good mix of shapes between mother and what the pollinator grew (round x round or tall x long).

For proven seeds, I ask myself the following question- does it have a good shot at growing a 1800 pounder? There really are only a few (in my opinion) that have a good shot at it. (1161, 1725, 1421)
For unproven seeds, I like big pollen (1468.5, 1605)
For seeds that have seen limited dirt, I like to see the progeny weights cluster at a high average. I like this better than a seed that has seen limited dirt and only produced one big one. For example, I like the 1622 Young. grown about a dozen times, with 6 of them clustering in the range of 1300-1400. That seed is going to grow a big one this year.

For proven seeds: give me a seed that has out-performed other seed in the same patch in size and mainly percent heavy. And can I get the seed.
Unproven: Seeds from a patch with 5+ plants (more is better). Must be from either of the 2 largest if pollinated by the other. Selfed is fine if it was the largest. Parents must be the top 2 percent heavy in the patch and 8% or greater
