After reading the 2011 post and seeing Chris's post that he was planting one. I thought that I would see some hypotheticals. If I had one I'd want to cross it with?????

I'm sure Chris has already planned on this as best as possible, but I would like to think there are four obvious choices that the 1810 should be pollinated with:
Self Sib x 1161 x 1725 Harp

With so few seeds, selfing it damned sure makes sense. But with what I know about Quinn and his talent for picking seeds and crosses, I'd be interested in his reasoning behind his choices.

I would self it, and if growing two, I would self both of them. If someone didn't want to self it I would consider:
1. 1725 Harp 2. 1468 Stevens 3. 1605 Sweet
In that order.

In a perfect world every 1810 would be selfed. Then we could take the one that has the closest qualities to momma and hope it actually has enough seeds to be grown out properly.
It's not only likely, but probable that a good % of the 1810 seeds will not display that size and % heavy contained in momma. Look at the huge variation in the offspring of the 1161 seed itself. Some are nice and orange and light.
I'd go as far to say there may have been only one other 1161 seed that contains the same traits as 1810. Unfortunately it was already grown in Ron's 1596. Maybe someone will prove otherwise.
Hopefully we can pass on the extreme vigor and heavy from the 1810 to other lines and continue moving forward.

Chris, I believe the 1495 Stelts may fit into the 1810 and 1596 group. It had a very similar look to the 1810 and 1596, it was Dave's biggest fruit of the season and it went around 25% heavy.

On my list earlier I forgot the 1450 Wallace, I would put it at #2 and slide the 1468 and 1605 done one spot each.

because the seed is so rare and limited in availability ? if ron and i had one we would most likely put it into most of what we grow this year. im sure some of our sngpg buddies would be lining up for available pollon as well.
as fdor the 1810 itself? that would take much deliberation. i do like andys thoughts however.

Selfed or any 1600+. I haven't heard much about the 1674 Marsh so I'll throw that in there. Then take that seed with whatever monster comes from this year. Personally, I like orange so a 1059.
Good to see another Missouri grower on the board. Are you around Hermann or Augusta?

if memory serves me correctly the 1674 marsh was plenty light green in color. almost looked like a green squash in the piture i saw. this would probably be a great pumpkin to crosse back and forth with a proven green squash like the 848 mac. just my thoughts. pap

1610 Lieber is an 1161 x self, so already is closely related to the 1810, and the largest to ever win a prettiest pumpkin award.
Charlie also said it had the most uniform interior of any pumpkin he had ever seen.
I doubt you would lose any size potential, and it won’t hurt the orange factor either.

Has a larger one ever won a prettiest/HD award?
The only heavier deep orange one I can think of was the 1662 Stelts, did that one win the Dill award at the Ohio Valley contest in 2009?

Don, I just looked it up and I cannot find anything on the 1662.5 Stelts having gotten an HD award, although it certainly was very nice orange.
So as far as I can look up, that makes the 1610 Lieber the biggest to ever win a prettiest award.
Anyway, part of the reason I figure it would be a good cross for the 1810, or to get 1810 pollen for a female, is that both were grown from 1161.
So the result would be getting good genes from the 1161 on both sides.
