One of my seeds were taking along time to break through the soil so I removed it and noticed it has a club root. Do I keep it, or dump it? has anything good come from a slow start(club root)seed? Ben.

Benj, I also have problems with the 641 Andrews.Club root! He was over 10 days under the earth. The leaves do not look good. A mutation. I think he will not do. Look in my diary on 02/05/2011 http://www.crazy-growers.de/viewtopic.php?p=41923#41923 I wish you good luck Benj!

What we call a Club Root is not a Club Root. Club Root is a disease that affects Crucifers/ Cole Crops. Which results in death or reduced vigor of the plant. What you have is a mutant plant failing to produce a single tap root.

Club root plants are fine. Some of my biggest pumpkins have been grown from club root seedlings.

Club root has not been documented in Cucurbits is what I am saying..several people have grown pumpkins that are bigger than anything I have grown on these plants with the mutation.

Club roots (or club footed as they are also called) is a term that someone here on bp.com no doubt coined when trying to describe the multi-root club looking root that appears once in awhile with giant pumpkins.
I've heard that they grow alot of personal bests and huge pumpkins...

Yes!, my seed looked like this but it has alot more roots very small fine roots. On day 8 it's still not out of the dirt, maybe not enough strenth in those little tiny roots!

I believe that "club roots" are actually the product of a dead growing tip on the root and the resulting lump is the root hairs branching off to form new roots. If this is the case, the long term effects of the problem would be nill.

My 641 Andrews did not make it this year, I pulled it after 12 days and there was no roots. I will Try again next year, if I get this seed again!. Was sure looking forward to see what this seed would do.
