Do some genetic lines grow longer i.e more days? I saw a presentation on the 1810 that said it was a sleeper but kept adding weight in September while other pumpkins stopped growing. are there other pumpkins that kept adding pounds late into the season vs, just hanging out in September?

Most of the big pumpkins right now are Rodonis or Jutras or their crosses. Hinckley is really in the middle of Minnesota, but yes we are far north. In fact we are further North than half the population of Canada. I am using low tunnels to make large microclimates for pumpkins. I am also transplanting advanced seedlings into the tunnels. I grow them in 5 inch peat pots for 10 days then transfer to 7gallon grow bags for about 3 weeks before transplanting into a mound in the garden covered by double row cover. Transplanting advanced seedlings is touchy, but I figured it out after stunting the first one.
