What are your thoughts of sticking with your original crosses from on paper selections if plants dont look as good as some of the others in reality. My senario, 1605 Sweet was going to be my main pollinator. It started slow so i potted up and eventually put out later with no cables, no house, and a less prepped area. SO its obviously behind, It is throwing males, So do I stick with the plan for genetics or use pollen from a plant that is twice the size and thriving ?

Good Question..... I am going with the geneticZ that I see and want into the future thatZ growing right now I can check out. Looking at leaf structure (I like smaller leaves and shorter leaf stalkZ so itZ eaZier to grow in the wind), tendency to burn eaZier..I dont like that trait. Heavy with heavy, color with color....and try to mix it up....using different lineZ of geneZ.
And long lil pumpkinZ win favor aZ well.....good trait in my book.
I am convinced that the best way to go iZ to start several of what you want to end up with....take the heartist most vigorous one... as your go with pumpkin. Growing my own seedZ allowZ for this so that too factorZ into my pollen choiceZ. CoJoe sayZ dont put all your pollen into one bank....since we dont know how good they are till weigh off day....\
I have set a pumpkin in late August and have gotten great seed countZ from them...to witness my 333 2010(Tre') 898 X 901 cross....growing this year...
Good Luck Mr Sweet...GrowZem BIG
