There have been many great pumpkins grown and I am always interested to see which seed the grower has the most confidence in.

This is your chance to tell other growers about your seeds. Let everyone know which seed of yours you like, the cross, and why. It can be proven or unproven the key part is that you have confidence in it.

Statistics are one thing but here is an opportunity to state what seed of yours you think is the best, and who knows, maybe someone will plant it.

1167.5 gerchy 2011..703 Gerchy EST 2010 x 1495 Stelts(the 703 is 718.9 Gerchy x 1258 Wallace. The 1258 put heavy into the 718.9, as the 1167.5 went 20% heavy. Most solid pumpkin I've ever grown and nicely shaped with no internal cracks and a flat bottom.)

1306 mohr 2010 (1161 x 1288 wallace). In limited planting, top weight this year was 1100+ and all went heavy to charts. its also the reverse cross of 1381 checkon which went over 1600 this year.

164 mohr 2011 (723 bobier x 1468 stevens). just a hunch it could be a good one! might be the next 227 leland... not many seeds in the 164, but if you are serious about planting it, let me know and I'll send you a seed.

I'm not going to plug my own but I will plug the 1409 Miller. Of the four that I know of that were grown this year three were over 1500 pounds and the fourth was on it's way. It will see plenty of dirt in California next year and I'm willing to bet someone going pop a real monster!!

1018 martin11 1325 Hopkins X Self. Great looing fruit and would have been 400 pounds larger if not for me having to take off half of the plant. Went around 6% heavy.

1262 Brady (1596 werner x 1592 platte)24% heavy. Plant was pretty much neglected all year because we got behind when it was raining alot. but anyway this plant only had a couple vines buried with myco only got pruned when it was growing outside of its spot and only had about 7 hours of sunlight. The 1592 grew our 1352 est. Brady that was our fastest growing with several 40+ pound days until mid august when we had alot of vines on all of our plants rot from excess moisture. We never got to weigh it because when we picked it up we found a hole in the bottom from mice. maybe it should be called the 1352est. dmg. Brady. I think this seed has alot of potential to go big and heavy.

1020 Brady (1554 Rose x 1596 werner A) again vine rot got us. This time 2ft. from the pumpkin. Was at 900 mid august. The pollinator grew our 1427.5. This was a cross of our 2 fastest growing plants. Both went a little light but I think it has the potential to grow something big.

Check out the genetics behind the 1135 Revier and you will see why I am excited about it.

994 Snyder (1495 Stelts x 1421 Stelts) +10%

Just a little pumpkin in a tough year but I believe this one has great potential. The pollinator grew my 1068. I thought the pollinator for this one was going to grow a beast, it was well ahead of my 1418 from last year at 30 days but the extreme amounts of rain and disease pressure(pythium) kept it from getting very big. Both fruits had decent color and good shape.

1320 Snyder (1193 Snyder x 1725 Harp)

My biggest for this season and grown on my own seed from last year. I belive the 1193(1041 x 1421 Stelts) grew the heaviest pumpkin for everyone who took it to the scale. The pollinator for this one had tough luck, two hail storms left the main broke in 5 different spots on the 1725. I'm not sure if the broken up main or the extreme heat of July were to blame for all the aborts on this one or not. I ended up with a little 600 lb open pollination that was pollinated around the first of August, it was shaped and colored like the 1674 Connolly..... but 1000 lbs smaller, lol!

Well, just for you Norm et al here are the two seeds of my own that I am going to plug…

Hard to argue with my 1064.5 DeBacco ‘10 (F: 1385 Jutras x M: 1421.5 Stelts) that I plugged last year
(See the following link: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=19&p=383693)
It grew my second heaviest this year at 1,256 pounds and 11% heavy. Two other growers both grew a 965 pounder (4.95% heavy) and a 952.5 pound (on chart) pumpkin, both of which appeared to have no flaws in their shape and good color.

I am unsure of the seed counts from most of my pumpkins as of this posting but I like my 1216.5 DeBacco ’11 (F: 1325 Hopkins x M: 1725 Harp) from this year for several reasons.

First off I selected the 1325 Hopkins because it was different genetically then many of the seed lines I had in the patch. When I had germination problems Chris Stevens air mailed me a seedling that ended up producing my 1216.5. (Thanks again Chris!) This pumpkin was a long shape with good orange color, but did develop some cantaloping later in the season. The shape from an external view at this point looks flawless.

The 1725 Harp pollinator was a great pumpkin that had no internal flaws and grew my personal best weight but had some late season mouse damage resulting in a dmg at the scale. However, having the second heaviest pumpkin grown in Connecticut at 1,465.5 pounds as a pollinator does seem like some good genetics. Also, since the 1725 Harp is a purified 1385 Jutras line crossing this into the 1325 Hopkins line should result in a good mixture of different genetics.

My dairy will have pictures posted soon.

My 1209 shenoha 2010 seed produced my 1156 shenoha 2011 this year in the very tough high heat, high humidity, too much rain, then drought season here in illinois. Very nice and easily trainable aggressive plant. It went 10% heavy. The 1209 is the 873 Naylor x 991 urena plant that grew the illinois state record 1493. The 873 was 24% heavy and is off the 1147 shenoha that was 15% heavy and the pollinator for the 873 was a 1119 mcmullen that also produced 24% heavy. The 1147 shenoha is the 1041 mckie x self. So with in this cross, there is the heavy fiberous flesh genetics from the 1041, the 1119, and the 991 size. The 1156 was the largest pumpkin in illinois this year and if you look in my diary, you will see the varmint damage on the 1209 main vine at 7' that healed, but I imagine it cost the overall potential weight some also.

Clarification....the 1209 was 20% heavy and produced the 10 % heavy 1156.
