I want to bounce this out there as a question.
My 1450 Wallace this year thru a very orange pumpkin. I crossed it with WrinkleZ back and forth. Wrinkles the 1810 started out white, but then turned shiny orange picking up traitZ from the SteltZ side of the cross.
What should I expect from Crossing these two together. More orange, or will there be a tendancy for the other Wallace 1450 genetics to come thru as well. What they call recessive genes?
I am wanting to create a different line of ORANGE HEAVY. The 1610 Lieber got its orange from the 1161...1450....So I am wanting to cross my 1450 X 1810 this year, with my 1610 X 266 (1204 X 1016) cross. Am I on the right track, I would think they should all favor orange....???

Wiz what you need to do is ditch all that AG germplasm and grow Jarradale. Cross that with Pink Fox. Grow under hail netting and fertilize with Llahma poo. Then once you got a fruit set you need 10,000 lazer pointers shining on the fruit 23.5 hours a day. They must all be switched on and off within 25 milliseconds of each other to get maximum orange color development. I have run this treatment plan past my 6 yo and she concurs.

I miss the days where we could engage in speculative pumpkin discussion that was free of this personal attack BS. *sigh*
Wiz, it looks like 1610 progeny are pretty consistently showing the dominant orange gene. and because these genes are "purified" 1161, they are primed "go heavy".
Im speculating that the 1204 you refer to in your 266 cross is Scherber's. If Im wrong in my assumption, please correct. This 1204, while possibly showing various orange traits, likely is not purified dominant orange. This may apply to the 1016 pollinator as well. The result of your proposed cross would be a hella lotta good genetics, but may not hit the orange target you have set. No guarantees this mix will be the color you seek.
Another concern that arises is the viability of 1161 progeny. Concerning that more and more generations of these fruit are producing low and/or non-viable seed counts. 1161 lineage needs some new blood to restore vitality.
And to preserve its remarkable growth traits as well as the color exhibited in 1610, I'd take a 1610 or one of its viable self crosses (shameless plug for the 1213 Ailts '11) and pollinate next season's fruit with some classic known orange. Remember 772 Poirier? 1290 Poirier? How about past GPC Dill award winners that were selfed or crossed with other known dominant orangies?
I believe this strategy would be the most effective tact for producing "orange & heavy"

Joze There are no attacks meant here at all. This is a cary over of several posts over the last week or so> There is a couple "questions" as to who Amelio is, and most people are peggy the Wiz as being Amelio. So absolutely no personal attcks, Wiz is our Brother from another Mother, and we're just playing with him!!! Sorry, I guess you missed the memo

No memo missed at all. Wiz poses what I perceive as a legitimate question for speculation. And I certainly acknowledge that there may indeed be undertones based on recent board dynamics.
Thus, my original comment holds true. For those of us with no interest in partaking in the current social circus but yet retain interest in interacting on threads with seemingly legitimate pumpkin discussion, the extra baggage becomes a turn-off.
To each their own.

Wiz my $0.02 from the peanut gallery echos what Joze said. Seems like there would be some recessive 'non-orange' gene alleles in the material you mention using, so then Joze's strategy would give you better odds of getting orange. However since you mention wanting to create an entirely new orange and heavy line and already have the material you want to plant, why not go for it? Of course be sure to observe what color fruit both the mother and pollinator plant produce. If neither produce nice orange then you wouldn't want to carry the seeds forward. If both are orange then you will have good odds of getting what you want out of the cross.

The 1204 I refer to is the 1204 Kline, all orange.. Ill need to look it up again on aggc... but 670 daigle X his 1229 I think. someone correct me. That being said....then I would have dominant orange... I am going to find out... We have grown the 266 twice now... wonderful orange. BiZ had a wheel in his diary several years ago. Never made it to scale due to bad grower vine management...it was a beast, so I grew it again. In my diary this year....very nice but BES as I pushed it too fast....but nice orange...put the 1610 in it to thicken it up. My 1610 was a wonderful plant, voles got to it..so I know what I got from both sides here... Im going for it.... but other... question still remains the same. If we choose a offshoot like my 1450 ORANGE FREAK, and again cross it into more I would think it should reinforce excactly what I am wanting.....1450 Wallace ORANGE GenesZ....... True?

you cant go wrong with the1662.5 stelts I think, or the 904 stelts would be my choice for big and orange at the moment. Its a difficult decision Wiz, coz there are so many good seeds out there Micheál

I will get into the 1610 off spring,, most of the people that grew the 1610 and selfed-it the pumpin kept it Orange color,, the people that crossed it,, myself included,, the pumpkin came out white and tanish color,, look about 10 post down under frank4 Steve sperry,, was the only one that crossed the 1610 x 1161 and it came out a great Orange color and won the howard dill awared,, at Frenchies Farm was 1306lbs. I believe

My 1610 was very round and orange...great plant. Estimated at 550 pounds pollinated with the 266 Grande (1204 Kline X 1016 Daletas ((was the 895 Grande)). THis one will get grown in 2012 by the WIZ..I know itZ orange and purty....will be putting the 1450 X 1810 StevenZ into it....SO we shall see.... HEAVY PURTY and ORANGE.....All from Wallace geneticZ..... excpet the Kline/Daletas flash...Yo!
