Is it me or is the 1404 Bryson selling for around $150 more the 1381 Checkon for some reason I've missed.
Both are the same 1288 x 1421 cross and both don't appear to have been planted in any great numbers.
The stats look very even but Ron running an auction ended up bidding himself and got the 1381 for just $40.
If it's not me I can see a few growers kicking themselves at the weigh offs next fall.

Ian,I believe the 1381c is 1288 x 1161 rodonis. They grew a 1421 on their 1161.

Thanks for putting that right for me. I would still be interested why growers think that the 1381 is only worth around $45 as it clearly has so much potential.

Recently a 1306 Jutras sold for $35. Seven seeds from Pete Glasier, including a 1219- 1421 Stelts x 1161 Rodonis, went for $25. Almost make you think that people are buying brands, not seeds. But that would be silly.

I can't really say that the 1381 or any other seeds mentioned are or are not undervalued... that is up to the buyers not the auctioners... but I do believe we can attribute the elevated price of the 1404 to the fact that it grew the current world record! Even though maybe not many have been grown, people tend to notice WRs!

Some of the names on seeds certainly tends to add perceived value and having grown the world record also will make a difference. Stuart and I also have paid a load of money for seeds that we really wanted. I'm just amazed that a seed that can grow a solid pumpkin with no Dill rings to near 1700lbs first year out appears to have little interest in the auctions.
For the record we are putting two 1381's in our patch out of 6 plants.

Frankly I am amazed that anyone would pay money for seeds. There are so many good seeds out there that can be had for free and a lot of them have just as much potential as anything you can buy. Pete Glasier sent me his 1219 for Free. I'd much rather grow that and spend an extra $150 on my soil prep and plant care instead of paying a lot money just because one grower got a huge one out of a certain seed.
