Suppose you are choosing next year's line up. One of your choices is a new seed, maybe 1502 Daletas 2011. 1725 Harp x 898 Knauss. Broken down you have a (2003 x 2005) x 2001.

A generous benefactor named Eddy gives you a 1068 Wallace 2003. A 2000 x 2001. Emotions aside what would you plant?

1068 wallace before it gets too old to sprout.

Both of them :-)

But if I had to decide on one it would be 1502

If I had to chose between them, 1068 because it has proven to grow a 1600+ and with a new seed as a pollinator, the possiblities are better. If you decide not to grow the 1068, I will be happy to. :)

For the record, this is just a hypothetical question. I don't have or expect to have a 1068.

I like Joe's answer for practicality.

You got me writing an extensive reply that got off track, so I'll start a new thread.

1068 and 1161r are the two seeds that i get nostalgic over.Since hypothetical- I'd go with the new cross.A very good grower( name rymes with "finn burner") told me he likes to move forward on the crosses. I cant argue with his success

you should grow the 730 Barber...

an interesting measure of advancement is # of generations past a point, say 935 Lloyd
then see how many generations of selection have been made on each parent of your seed past that point. Call it a measure of advancement. Assuming each selection was an improvement the higher advancement value indicates the better seed. Run the math on some of the best or the best grower(s) in the world's seed selection and success to test
