Hi,
I'm a first year grower and I recently was given a great assortment of seeds from a BP user (who's screen name I can't think of at the moment). But now I'm having a hard time picking which to grow.

I'm thinking of doing three plants, one of which I'd like to do partly in hydroponics (the seed root part, stem roots in the ground).

So anyway, my top picks are 1493 Shenoha (991 Urena X self), 679 Sandercock (1689 Jutras X 1725 Harp), & 928 Box (1725 Harp X Self).
Also looking good are: 806 Baker (1622Young X 1544.5Revier), 626 Baker (1544.5Revier X 1421.5 Stelts), and 1280 Rodine (1858Young X 1678Hunt).

So I've looked at AGGC for quite some time, but that doesn't seem to be helping me make a choice at all.
Any suggestions or considerations would be quite helpful.
Thanks!

Home of happy lil plants

1493, 928, all the rest in my mind are all about equal but let that statement confuse you there is not a single one there that doesnt have the potential.

Hum.... You're favoring the self pollinated ones, or maybe that's just a coincidence...

As a first year grower genetics dont really matter that much. What you need is a year or two under your belt. And most of the current seeds got great potential. Flip a coin or just go with your gut feeling. Tuff choices about your line up is gonna be a yearly returning issue. One of the pleasures of winter time.. ;)

Dr. J.,
I am glad to see my 1493 on your list. It grew a 1047, my 906 shenoha and another 900 lber last year in very tough conditions. It is a nice plant that starts a little slower out of the gate then revs up. My 906 was 18% heavy and a very nice orange shaped pumpkin. All of those seeds have great genetics so my suggestion would be to start them all. Some may not sprout and some that sprout may be double viners or ribbon viners. Therefore I would intentially start about 8 to 10 seeds. Pick the best 6 sprouters and then decide which ones you want as your prime choice plants. Put thoses 3 in each separate planting spot and then take the other 3 and plant those next to your prime plants as backups. I put backups side by side to the top choices about 2.5 to 3 feet apart. If all goes well then the backups can be severed at ground level. Do not pull out a back up to avoid disturbing the roots of the prime plant. The backups are good insurance to anything and everything that can go wrong in the spring. Best of luck and if you have trouble germinating and need more seeds, just shoot me an email. Best of luck and have fun. Welcome to the insanity!

All good seeds, the 928 is mine. Did well for me with a late set. As Shazzy said start them all and put them in the ground then pick the most vigorous plants to leave in patch.

DR .Jerryrigger I grew the 1493 care free plant and like Shazzy said a slow starter but kicks right in . Lost mine early to hurricane Irene on august 29th at 1047 lbs. This seed is under planted !

Thanks guys! I guess I just need to get a handful going and take it from there... also I should keep next year in mind...
Playing with some not so great seeds may be wise to get my feet wet (and to do some experiments).
I love this hobby/obsession already.
