I am planting out my 1810 X 1450 cross this year....I think I might have a heavy orange line going on here....My 1810 was very nice, shiny speckled orange...If for no vole holes it would of weighed over 1000 eaZy and a potential for HD award. IT'Z cross was the my 1450 Wallace. My 1450 Wallace looked like the 1250 Kline before the voles took it down.... Shiny dark orange.... So I am going to find out...by growing it.
Now... I wanna pollinate it....with....something that will potentially throw ORANGE SHINY and heavy... forever...lol
In my Wizzzy geneticZ bag I have...
1370 Rose 670 Daigle 1101 Northrup 500 Poirer
What should Wizzzy use? Hmmmmm......

Oh Oh..Oh.....Pete...look at that 1662 portrait....ThatZ WrinkleZ all over....except much heavier.....But very much so.....
WOW...I am really like the 904 now....But can one grow two SteltZ seeds in the same patch? FolkZ will say I'm kissing up to the PreZ....and then I can send my 1370 to JV....to grow...

wiz the 670 line seems to produce splitters i would go with the 904 first choice or 1370 second choice but we all know its a crab shoot on what they will throw color wise if you could get one that has pollen the 1610 might work well

Wiz, I say 904 Stelts or 998 Pukos to bring heavy and orange. Consider the 1210 VanHook 2010 too.

The 670..it grew my 988 x 1450 and it has produced nothing but orange and shiny..or use my 988.It will also bring the power of the 1450 back into the cross

I like Pete's suggestion of a 904. 1370 would be my next choice for big and orange.

All seeds from the past. If you want a good pollinator from that era grab a 603.5 Muller. Wiz the 670 is at the top of your list for adding big orange but I suggest looking towards some newer seeds like the 1059. Or the 1610.

I really like the 1370 for size and a good chance for strong orange, but I still think it would be more of a gamble than going with a sure thing like the 670 Daigle.

Hey Wiz...looks like you & I are in the same boat. Lucky you!! Seems we are both looking for pollinating plants for our own hopeful seeds...and wanting BIG & ORANGE results. I can't use my own seeds, since I've already doubled & tripled up on the 1161 genes. For some other grower who's willing to chance an unproven seed...mine might give some good results. My 1244.5 (1161 x 1610) was 15.5% heavy. Quite a number of people are planning to grow it, so I'm excited about that.
I think we have 3 basic choices: 1) Pick a seed to grow for almost certain orange, but possibly sacrifice on BIG. 2) Pick a proven seed for growing BIG, with a possibility for ORANGE. 3) Go out on a limb with an unproven seed that just might give you both.
I think many of the seeds suggested, fall under #1.
1370 and 904 along with yet unmentioned 1421 are excellent choices for #2.
At the top of my list for "out on a limb" choices would be the orange 1634 Werner, which has just 7 reported progeny, all over 1,000 lbs & it grew the 1725 Marshall. And Quinn's pollinator plant (1236 Harp) grew a very orange fruit.
Next choice would be the 1704 Urena 11. Most of it's 991 mamma's progeny were not orange....but what orange genes it had, it certainly did pass on to the 1704. The pollinator, 1468.5 Stevens, was also a nice orange.
I'm close to making a decision. What are you thinking now Wiz?

i think a 772 x 904 cross or a 1180daletas x 904 cross, could produce orange and heavy.

for those who want to try a new seed, the 980 Fredricks 2011 has great potential for big, heavy, and very orange. 1544 revier by 1610 lieber, 8% heavy, grown as a new san diego county record. I might be a little biased since I grew it lol, but I feel so confident in the cross for size and orange beauty that I am groing my own seed this year, and I only grow one plant a year! I'm in the process of trying to get a 1704 urena to cross with this year. I have seeds available still. Jim
