We all know how much Green Daves monster had off of his 1495 but I have not seen a lot of pictures from other fruit grown off of the 1495. I was wondering if other growers pumpkins threw a lot of the same Green traits or if Dave's was a freak. 1161 x 904 looks like it should be orange. What color was your 1495???

Ned I believe daves 1807.5 would have been orange had he not had a towel laying on top of the fruit all season. You can see the square outline where the towel sat in some photos. Years ago I created a similar green area on a 846 calai fruit by having a piece of hot water heater insulation(the foil-bubble wrap stuff) laying on it. It was going to be a 100% red orange fruit. I think the 1807.5 fruit had a lot of the 904s parent in it.

Thanks all. After surfing around a bit and doing some more inquiries it surely seems it throws orange pumpkins. I think Dave has a secret up his sleeve as to what he is soaking in those towels. Crap I should have called him to throw it on the 1082 * squash, it may take some of the grey stripes out. Good Luck Scott. I have one up as well.

Thanks for the infor amelio. I to have been planning on a computerized dropper this year! I need to find something to grow me a big one this year. I will have a symbiosis situation between my pumpkin seeds this year and the pectobacterium carotovorum but I am just going to have to deal with it. I have summoned up a power bigger than all of us and will be posting soon on my diary... I think a message has been sent!

Ahhh yes amelio.. the stimulation of benzene and benoates is exactly what I am striving for. To neutralize the Pectobacterium Carotovorum is my plan while flooding it with portions of oxalic acid. I did not think this was at all possible but believe that one of our fellow growers was already on to something.. I believe incorporating these theories with the bibibobolater that Mr. Doc Gipe formulated in years gone by will work to perfection. I must contact Mr. Rocky Rockwell as I believe he has one in storage that may be available this year.

Actually, i have been enjoying this exchange of ideas. I somewhat like the idea of having exposure to air on the pumpkin of all its surface area. Question for Amelio, If you grow on a tractor tire, how are you going to accomodate for the expansion of the pumpkin. Last year i had one pumpkin grow into a chain link fence and one that grew on playground sand. The inner edge of the tractor tire would be similar to the chain link.

I am trying to envision this but it is difficult. Unfortunately a sketch is hard to do here. Tell me if i understand correctly...you plan to lay a tire on its side on a concrete pad. Then on top of the tire you want to put a domed platform. I am not sure of the orientation of the dome, raised or lowered? As far as the vine and stem you will make access holes to your pumpkin . I might suggest trying to make the platform utilizing something similar to mill fabric. I dont know the tensile strength of mill fabric (might need some reinforcement to support 2000 lbs). If you created a ring around the fabric and then supported the ring with edge of the tire you then would have the growing nearly supported in air.

i checked for new thread...havent seen it yet... i will try to take a very clear picture of mill fabric and post it to my diary. I cant take pictures with much magnification but should be able to get it where you can see the weave. It will be later today when i do this since I need to go look at a plow for my pumpkin tractor now.

Amelio.. I am thinkingof 6 rings instead of four. I like the concept. I can see the bibibolater firing time released mists of the oxalic acid into the vortex like pan. Wow... the thought just blew my mind... I think it can be done.

ned can replace the term "bibibolater" with something that i dont have to go find my dictionary with...(it was lost some thirty years ago...someday it will reappear). I am guessing bibibolater might be a type of nozzle.

my appologies for sounding negative but, why not grow a few big pumpkins before you try and re-invent the wheel?
just a thought.

it amazes me how many people discuss this and that regarding new methods etc, yet they have never grown anything to compair their ideas to?

i suggest growing and getting some good old conventional experience first, then experiment later on.
the tried and true methods that most of our hobbies top growers use should not be over looked.

pap, i have grown one. Not great experience but definately one to learn from. This year, i will grow again..using mainly conventional techniques. As i am an innovator by nature i will not be able to do it the same every year. Did you grow bigger while not trying new techniques? I respect the long time growers here. Their innovations have made it better for all here. It is very improbable that i will grow a world record. But i dont need to grow a world record. I can use growing to teach my daughter...responsibility and the spirit of invention or innovation

but i feel that pap's statement was of higher presentation quality. Amelio, would your statement look good in a thesis?

Amelio.....are you considering yourself to be a professional giant pumpkin grower? you have yet to grow 1. You have experience with agriculture, other plants but ag's, none. I would not care what it looked like, if I grew a world record it would be fine with me. This would be your nazism! your asking me to believe something that is not there, as far as ag's going your on the bottom of the totem pole, your word means didley squat.

So you say. Not really, here in america you can do what you want, do his fan club members no anything? you would have to ask them and they have the right to freedom of speech to tell you or not, flat tire new tire if its a world record its fine with me.

back from the garden store.. amelio what you are not understanding is that there isnt a fanclub of one person, at least not for me. I am too independently minded to be a member..and i think many here are the same. There is a difference between respecting a person and being labled as a member of a group.

You don't, you come here just for the exchange of ideas, and such? why do you insult people, wallaces kronies, all the other people you have insulted, where does that fit in? why are you doing it? I tolerate and except, why do you feel the need to insult. My leader is God amelio, make no mistake about it. If you are such a far superior technical discissionist on all topics here, why can't you tolerate a little hazing, why can't you take a little sh-t with out thinking were all club members or making the same mistake the Germans made when they listened to Hitler. No one gives a shit amelio, were doing this for the fun, sport of it, it is a good clean hobby. You belong out leading a revolt somewhere, anti-nazi.

bnot, no I don't, was the manure or compost contaminated? I would consult a heavy hitter or someone who know's soil. I'm no good at growing ag's, I think thats why I do it, can't help but get better at it.

Last year as my plant reached full size, i ran out space where i could get dirt to bury the vines. This year i was thinking about buying bags of topsoil, and then mixing my burying soil from them. I didnt want any fertilizer added, and if it is sterilized i could better manage my biologicals. Try to introduce only those that i want. The manager of the store thought what i wanted wasnt available. On the drive home my family discussed ideas on how it could be done. We came up with 4 potential methods: radiation, ultra-violet light, chemicals and heat. Heat seemed to be the winner...easiest for backyard growers.

So, if i should find the time, i think i will build a conveyer steamer or a soil oven. Feel free to suggest any that we might have missed.

Thanks Steve.. it was quite a ride. Back to growing pumpkins now.. we need mother nature to turn up the heat here in Northeastern Pa. Good luck this year.
