How much of a pumpkins shape is genetically determined. I know that even on the same plant a variety of pumpkin shapes can occur, but is an ugly pumpkin with an ugly pollinator likely to produce an ugly offspring or is a good portion of that environmental. Would you ever not plant a seed because it came from a weird shaped fruit?

Generally speaking we try to breed like traits with like traits to increase the odds of getting that trait in the offspring.

I've noticed my pumpkins the last few years look more like the male I pollinated with, but not sure how that all works genetically!
