I found in an old gardening book I have mention of a Bob Fox of Ravenna, Ohio who grew a squash weighing over 300 pounds in the 1960s. A google search pulled up this news article. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1665&dat=19690729&id=vz1PAAAAIBAJ&sjid=KyQEAAAAIBAJ&pg=4661,2457111 Does anybody know anything about this grower?

I think he died in 2008 was known for his big pumpkins in the late 60's and 70's. Over 200 lbs on a big max in 1977. This probably don't help much but it's all I know! He's a legend in Ohio, not sure when or why he quit growing though?

probably quit because of old age. at some point we all need to fade into the sunset.

Thanks for the info Josh. I wonder what seeds he used to grow his 300 pounder since they weren't gray hungarian?

My dad bought some Hungarian squash back in the early 1970's. He offered to let me grow one in his garden for a little father son competition. The one I grew turned out orange while all the others were grey. Mine weighed 197 pounds and took 1st place at the Tennessee Valley Fair here in Knoxville. So this is my second year growing big pumpkins. I am hoping to take mine to Allardt a week from this coming Saturday. It is about 3 times the size of my 197 and has been a pleasure to grow.
