Does any one know if all seeds that come out of the same pumpkin have the same genetic make up / potential ?

And if so then what makes up your pumpkin is in fact all the diffrent variables that the plant deals with and the genetics play some what of a small roll ?

Any input ?

I think the guys who take better care of there plants can grow big with seeds from small stuff. I've seen a bunch of good seeds produce 5-800 pounds for growers who do the bare minimum, but genetics do play a role.

No, seeds are not the same.
When talking genetic (example) think of dogs and there puppys, all puppys are not the same (in any litter)

Are all people the same that come from the same parents?

yup I thought of that analogy but wasn't sure if it carried over to Pumpkin seeds. So not all ll61's are created equal then. Makes ya think about all the great genes out there that don't get used by the great growers cause they want to use the trusted seeds. It makes me feel better about not having to spend hundreds on one seed but instead I'll roll the dice and hope I'm a good enough grower.

I grew 2 1103 young seeds this year, and the pumpkins look nothing alike, genetics do play a big role ,dont cross your orang pumkins with a yellow ones .going to be neat next year,to see if the orange went to the 1723.i cross the 1103 in the 1723.iam thinking all seeds in the kin have diffent genetics,i grew luks525 and its not red like hes last year.iam not sure.

I do know for a fact you can grow a big kin from a seed from a 125lb pumpkin, genetics in the seed to go big,

the thing of it is this.seeds results from the same pumpkin may vary however some pumpkins produce a hell of a lot more really good seeds with a bigger majority of off spring than others.thats what make a hot seed stock.the grower also can make or break a seed stock as well.

to me size of parent /cross made and history of seed makes all the difference in the world.
i d rather have seeds from a very big pumpkin then try and improve on that seeds results rather than have a seed from a small pumpkin and try and grow it bigger.

Take the 1789 Wallace for example. It's half 1810. I've seen zero 1789's that look anything like 1810, but a bunch that look somewhat like 1725 Harp.

Of course I haven't seen all the 1789's, but I'm led to believe there are some slightly large 1789's about to we weighed. By slightly large I mean only slightly :)

I'm sure that some pumpkins have more dominant genes than others meaning that a cross isn't a true 50/50 split of all traits and most seeds will be pron to say turning bright orange rather then turning cream like the other parent from the cross. Any ways I think I understand it

Because no two seeds out of a pumpkin are identical, pumpkin growers develop twitches, seek psychics and may drink heavily.

The best explanation i have heard about offspring came from a horse breeder. He said "imagion a deck of cards when you are dealt a hand, you could get 4 of a kind or a dud hanor anything in between. The thing is some decks might have a low card of 8 while others might have a high card of 8. The better parents probably have the better chance of dealing a good hand. That being said , when you have two equal hands ,bet on the heavy hitters.

when i got the 125 brouillard seed last year ,i though you gota be kiding me its a small seed , grew it took the whole back yard up ,was impressed, had one at 8 foot out cut it off ,because the word is to have one at 12ft,well that year we had a heatwave took awail to get one set ,well time was ending quake,so i set 3 kins grew a 410, 383,264, add that up ,that 1 big pumpkin, took the seeds out and there big as my tumb, and the most rouned seed if ever seen, they allmost look like a pumpkin,no kiddin.goin to hope to have room next year for the seed it been on my mind ,if i never caught that kin off at 8 foot.

rons 1789 looks nothing like the 1725. more so this particular seed picked up the 1810 ( and back ) genes cause the fruit is low, wide, (real wide) and round .... hense "THE PLEASURE DOME"
