i have to use misters and when i pollnate i buy a cheep coller and cut a v in it to fit over the pumpkin and the vine i take a 2 liter coke bottle fill it with water and freeze it and place it inside under cooler when i pollnate so it keeps it nice and cool inside and i water alot...lol

I dont think theres anything thats a lot better in the heat than the others.None of the ag's like real hot.Just ask the growers in the midwest this year. You might grow earlier in the season or go visit the finders patch and see what they do.

I don't know if there is a seed that exist. I have been growing for 4 years and some do better than others. It is hit or miss. I like the 991 Urena crosses. But Frank and Tinas flagged for them for example. I grew a 1002 Kline this year that I could not keep volunteer pumpkins off of it. It was chugging along in the heat. But I got one of those heavy southern thunder storms. 2 inches and 96 degrees. Started losing the stump. Went down the vine to the pumpkin. Stopped stone coal at 475 pounds day 27. If you want to try it I have some seeds. I do grow under shade cloth . PaulF in Texas grew a 700+ in the heat and drought. I think it was the 466 Van Hook. Hope this helps. Hope we don't give up on the southern growers club. Kreig

Every seed will suffer under the right conditions. Often times i think its on what kind of soil its planted, how is it fed and how is it watered. A healty plant can take a good beating. When it gets 100/105 or more there is heat resistance for nobody, not even the healthiest of plants.

Misting and or shade are the only two things that can prevent flagging.

Home of happy lil plants

my 1137 starr made no sense by not wilting on the heat wave we had come through of 105-108 this summer, at the same time the other end of the patch a different plant wilted severely.

The 1137 is still out there making 50-100 pound pumpkins on 3rd vines with no stump and has taken up a massive amount of space now even though I have cleared off the majority of the plant.

I'm a newbie but I guess Im wondering about this also. San Antonio, TX gets mean but it would be nice to be able to compete at least.

Look for leaf color. Ask for seeds that produce a lighter paler shade of green as opposed to the more dark green emerald color leaves. That being said they will all flag in the high heat 98 and above if not cooled with either shade cloth or timed intervals of misting or sprinklers. the paler green leafed plants will have less a tendency to fry out coe mpleteyy and show scalded damaged leaves. See scott armstrongs simple misting system set up in how to section. A spaghetti tubing, tornado misters, on 6 foot stakes connected to poly tubing is an easy set up. Not too expensive either. I use the black tornado mistes from dripworks. I mist and water the same time periodically through hottest part of the day. If anyoneout there has some of my 1209 shenoha 2010 seeds, try one of those maybe. It has the paler green leaves, the 1209 was 20 percent heavy and crossed with the 991 that produced my 1493. It grew my 10 percent heavy 1156 last year. It was such a great plant for newbie growers here in illinois heat ad I think I gave them all away. I will loook.

As soon as the uncontrolled males open. In hot weather that's very early, shortly after first light.
