I'm considering growing a 1775 Starr, which was (1725x self)...and the 1725 was (1385x self). One point of view would be that the 1775 Starr should be some of the best isolated genetics of all time in a purified state. Another view would be that it's lack of genetic diversity will lack hybrid vigor. The 1775 Starr had great shape, was huge, but went light. What are your thoughts on this seed's potential?

Vineman, I think it will be a great seed! It seems like the pumpkin genetics that all the big pumpkins are coming from are all from one branch on a genetic tree. I think any hope for hybrid vigor has been gone for a while. Someone please correct me if I am wrong about the genetics.

I really like the potential of the 1775 Starr. I would grow it for sure. I think the 1725 Harp was a special seed and the genes and it's genetic potential need to be studied more. I have some 3rd generation 1725 Harp x self seeds that I will be growing this year as part of a growing project. Good Luck !

I grew my 928 Box(1725 Harp x self) in 2011, it was put in very late and grew very fast! Ended up at 733 on a young pumpkin, looked just like its mother. Am going to try it this year and hope to cross it with the 1775 Starr. Bottom line is grow the 1775!

the gene pool is narrowing with only big genetics. The biggest Mother and father combined weight ever. Id try pollinating with the 1770 Lieber for diversity and heavy and see what that seed grew the following year. I think the more inbred the less oPtions for success but isolated huge symmetrical genes might also be the gateway to 2500. Who knows though

I'm with you Russ. The 1775 Starr in my opion is one of the nices shaped pumpkin I have seen in quite some time. Yes it went light but if it can reproduce that shape and then find something that carries a simular shape but has some weight to bring into it. WOW is about all I could say.
