The seed was a 1725 Harp pollinated with a 1468 Stevens. It appears that only a handfull of Canadian growers tried it so it is still a bit unproven as far as I can tell. I know she is a greenie but both parents are not. I am very fortunate to have some great seeds to try this year. I keep coming back to the 1657 and will go with my gut and reserve a spot for it in my patch. What do you think of using it to pollinate my 1775 Starr and reverse?

Jim bryson told me the 1468 had his best fruit early. The plant was lost later to disease. Anyhow, good genetics on both sides of the 1657 seed.

I used it as a pollinator last year, but didn't have enough room in my main garden so I put it at a friends place. Being a couple miles away, I didn't really take as much care of it, and it was in a run of the mill small garden. I got it far enough to get male flowers and let one fruit set, where it got below average attention.
When we went to carve it for his kids, I could not believe how thick it was. It was estimated around 300 pounds, and two of us could barely horse it around. It was a real chore to get the top off it. Very thick. Good shape too.

I grew this last year on a new plot and found out in june that it had major K and N deficiency. I made corrections and blew it up at 600 lbs. It was a creme colored pumpkin. It has just as much potential as any of the other top 50 seeds out there. Treat it right and it will grow you a monster. Btw, the 1657 was an awesome looking pumpkin.
