Our allotments manager has just given us one pumpkin seed each per participent in next years plot holders giant pumpkin competition. He says the seed is Jim Bryson 1818.5. 2011.
There are 20 of us trying for the bigest pumkin for 2014 and he says he got the seed for £1.00 each, which seems too cheap to be true.
Now call me a sceptic but i need the opinon of those in the now.

- I doubt the identity of the seed.
- Are you restricted to using this seed, or is this just an offer from your allotment manager in order to provide the possibility of equal opportunities for each participant?
- Are you forced to growing one plant only, or is it like only the pumpkin grown off that particular seed can enter the competition, even if you grow 3 plants and one of the other two plants produces a bigger pumpkin?

Look what I found here, a picture of a 1818.5 Bryson seed:

Does you seed look like that? You might also consider sending an email to this grower or to other growers who have grown the 1818 and finding out if the seeds they had obtained from the grower did contain this red 1818-label on the seed shell...then I would suspect that your seed, if it´s an original one, should carry the same label, too.

Hello Jorge, no we can provide our own seed if we want and that is my prefered way to go down as i dont really trust that he could get the 2011 champion seed for that sort of price it must have been very sought after seed at the time.

Very unlikely anyone has 20 1811 seeds except Mr. Bryson. More likely second generation from the 1811b.

I am new to this board and do not know how to contact people directly.

I live in China and sometimes teach village kids: I'd like to give them some Giant Pumpkin seeds to grow.

If you will contact me at busyman66204@yahoo.com and tell me how much postage the bubble pack envelope will need on it, I will have one sent to you.

The return address on the bubble pack envelope will be a Wisconsin address and they will mail it to me in China along with some other things.

Thank you for your time and consideration, Todd
