Just wondering what you guys think. Im growing both the 2009 and 220 this year so It would be nice to hear peoples oppinions. So the question is, which seed is better, a random 2009 seed, or the 1725 seed that grew the 2009? Keep in mind that the 2009 seed is random and that all seeds, even from the same pumpkin, are different.

Myself Id say the "Random 2009" look at its track record. Its a hit or miss with any seed really, you have to factor too much in to really get best results from either seed.

Either way you go you have a chance to go big and as long as you do your best and have fun doing it you win.

I may plant the same two seeds; still haven't decided.

The 220 isn't a 1725 clone. Its the fruit of a 2009 seed pollinated by a clone of the 1725 plant that grew the 2009.
A certain percentage of seeds from any cross are going to be "special". Most of the seeds are going to be "Average" for that seed. Right now the 2009 probably has a better "average" weight. Then look at the 2328 and that is what "special" might weigh. The 220 hasn't been as widely grown. It is hard to tell if 1734 Steil represents special or average.

If you look at the 2032, I think that was an "average" seed for the 2009. it was only a few percentage points bigger than his other plants. It was Tim's skill and his patch that was special. Then look at the 1813 Northrup. It was almost 800 lbs bigger than their next largest fruit. That was a special seed.

Its going to come down to your skill and the weather.
The genetic ceiling on the 2009 has been set on 2328 lb so far and on the 220 its 1700 plus lbs. Sure, seeds differ from one another and on a rare occasion you choose a dud, but the question is never which seed is better, but how close you are going to get in growing a seed to its full potential. That requires lots of hard work, skill and good luck with the weather.Seeing the track record of both seeds so far, you got your work cut for you. Anything less then 1700lbs would be disappointing ;)
Good luck, lol
