Ok folks...heres my question...if I were to grow a 1327.5 rea (1498 werner x 979 mcmillan). And also grow either a 1498 werner or 979 mcmillan, could I cross either one of these as a male with the 1327.5 rea as the female, even though they are the parent genes of the 1327.5. Or I guess I should ask if this has ever been done. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks Erik

You won´t cross with parent genes, because the 1498 or 979 seed you will grow is not a parent of the 1357.5, it is an uncle or an aunt, it won´t have the same combination of genetics as the 1498 or 979 which was part of the parents of the 1327.5. The parents thing will apply when you pollinate with pollen from a clone of the original 1498 or 979 plant from the Rea patch, but I´m 99.9% sure you won´t have such a clone available. An example for the kind of crossing a parent into the new generation is the 220 DeBacco "snowball", because the pollinator is the clone from the plant which had produced the 2009 Wallace seed on the plant of which the 220 pumpkin grew. This should answer another part of your question...yes, things like this have been done before and, yes, one can do that and actually produce a new generation of seeds with great genetics.

Crossing back to the "Mother's side" - in this case a proposed 1327 x 1498 has done well in the past. I can't say it is naturally better than adding the father's side in again, but last I looked there were more examples of good seeds created by crossing back to the mother's side.

Ags are Heinz57ish genetically speaking. Makes planning crosses hit or miss. Id recommend planning on paper(which youre doing now). And I'd recommend also crossing your best two plants if your growing 3 or more.
