Pocatello (cliffwarren@yahoo.com)

My incomplete list. I have plans for six plants:

1 - 500.5 Warren 2013 - Grew my HD winner 849. Solid orange background.

2 - 849 Warren 2014 - Was an HD winner, and crossed with the 608 Olilla (1059 VM X self). The 608 grew another shiny orange fruit.

3 - 409 Warren 2013 - Another grower grew it, and it came out RED and very little ribbing. I like the genetics and want to pass them on. Was 1432 Northrup X OPEN (most likely self). Was grown on a side vine, started late and harvested early for the fair.

4 - 1817 McConkie - Biggest HD winner ever. Going to cross more orange into it!

5 - ?

6 - ?

Sites five and six might get (ugly-big) or more known orange producers. Still open at this time.

Show me your plans for orange!

Im going to finally give my 555 Grande (1450 Wallace x 1810 Stevens) a premium patch. Won the last two HD awards for Jack growing at 6500 feet, he barley missed 1K each time........ Looking for a worthy mate....
Would love to cross it with Margo....

This is great. We are probably seeing the next generation of great orange genetics.

For me, I'm a little old school. I have a 1016 Daletas and a 1230 Daletas that I have to give a chance. If they don't pop, I'm going with John Young 777 or 809. Awesome to see so many options.

I'd like to see the 1561 Reeb grown. It was a standout beauty at Hamilton and is a selfed 1661.5 Werner.

Looking to cross either the 1317 clementz or the 1947.5 clementz with the 705 dabacco (811 gerhardt x 2009 wallace)

Wixom, that 705 Dabacco could be a great cross. The 359 Foss (1048 Engel x 2009 Wallace)shows the mid-sized beauties can do well when crossed into the 2009.

I'm going with the 1784 Glasier. (1730 Werner X 1770 Lieber)
It wasn't real orange but its progeny have been.

12/16/2014 2:48:42 PM

Ludwig Ammer

Eurasia

wixom-grower, the best red always has to be teased out.
When I have a dark orange, and I think, that this color should become red, I provoke mother´s genetics with a dull pollinator, which is able to withdraw all orange, if it won. So I provoked C. maxima 'Lakota' with the cream-pink C. maxima 'Galleux d´Eysines' and produced the C. maxima 'Goscha' with a strong red besides a strong blackish green: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/gourds/msg0918031325265.jpg
You can use a nice dark orange AG, make a inbred line of it and pollinate it with an inbreeded cream-beige 2000#er then to get the largest dark red monster ever seen. But Ron Rahe already has dense genetics for red, and so you might have your result next year or in 2016, if you pollinate a great fruit of him with an inbred line of a 2000#er. I think, that Beny Meier produced such most impressive cheesy lines.

Don, grafting giant C. maxima is Kids´ stuff.
But your 1333/09 is kind of masterstroke.
Would you allow me to grow stretto seed of your 1333 next year? It fits quite good to my 612/14 with so much 1385.5!

Here's a sleeper for those wanting to grow a really great Orange fruit:
1139 (est) Laginess
The cross is 980 Fredricks x 1048 Engel
Both of these throw GREAT Orange

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=1&p=520873

you can see this fruit in afveteran's diary.

As of today, I am thinking
993 V/M x 1139 Laginess
1139 Laginess x 993 V/M

This is a bit of inbreeding...as the 1048 Engel has the 993 V/M in its family tree. What do you think?

Darren, what did your 1107 male pollinator grow? I know the 400 Zunino produced the 1107 but I want to see what the 1107 grew for anyone. Thanks

I would still say the 334 Arnold is a contender for very orange. I saw a poor pollinated offspring at a weigh off this year that was oddly shaped due to pollination but it had extreme color. It was the most vigorous plant in my patch this year; just wish our weather was a little better.
