With alot of the great seeds having the 2009 Wallace in the back ground what are some people's plans to put different back ground non 2009 related in there cross?
I myself love all the 2009 crosses and am thinking of doing a 2009 x 1625 Gatner cross

My 962.5 McWilliams is a 1493 Witter-Benson (selfed 2009) pollinated with 359 Foss (1048 Engel x 2009)The 962.5 grew on a secondary after wind broke the main and had a 500# on another secondary. I'm hoping to add the orange color from the Engel to the size of the 2009 Wallace.

In 2014 I grew a 774 that is 1623 Wallace X 1625 Gantner, technically no 2009 in that one...
This season I grew the following...
1124.5 (1730 Werner X 2323 Meier) +8% 1017 (1947.5 Clementz X 1730 Werner) +3% 1007 (2096 Meier X 1730 Werner) +9% 939 (2323 Meier X 1730 Werner) +1%
I also crossed the 1985 Miller X 2323 Meier that also weighed 1017 but was 5% lite, but was brilliant orange.
Should be some good crosses to grow!

Yes Big X Heavy is the way to go Tanner. I will put the 1625 into my 1317 in 2016 & the 1947.5 Thats what the 1317 is Big X heavy. I have 5 seeds from the 1625 & I gave two to a good friend to grow up the road. I plan to steal his males when he is not looking.lol

I would think its been proven that the strongest genes per trait shows enough tendencies to prove be that not only can you increase your odds looking for a certain trait, it also seems these plants do not mind cross breeding or continual lines breeding again and again......just my opinion. Look at the orange growers.....orange is genetic. Doesnt mean each pumpkin from the 1048 is gonna throw red/orange beauties.....but the odds are good. Same for 1625 thick dense walled genetics. Its all a crap shoot. But I would look more for desired trat then lineage. The hybrid vigor or new lines makes sense on so many levels with other plants. These freak encourage inbreeding....big with big. Big shell x big wall...monster x monster. The hobby went from 400 lbs to 2323 lbs in 35 years. Its evolution in light speed.
Cross the 2009 with either a proven monster grower, a desired heavy trait like 1625, or orange big and heavy like 1495, or 2323 for big x big. Sorry if long winded or mistakes but shot this one from the hip
