do people ever on one vine pollinate one 723 with 582 and then farther down the line do a 723 with 846, etc. what would be good or bad doing this?

It is done often. The only harm that comes from this is you have two pumpkins on the vine. Which hinders the growth of the other. A few growers have grown 1000lb+ pumpkins with a impressive smaller pumpkin on the same vine.

May be, if someone is growing two pumpkins on the same vine with different pollinators, i imagine he first is growing for genetic crosses so heavy dont matter. In the pollen is only going on a straight way to the ovule and does´nt effect the whole plant, the result is only in the seed.
In my opinion a second pumpkin on the same vine must not hinders the growth of the other in all matter, some times it could prevent the bursting of the other. And whats about the bio-rule "competition promote growth"?

What about Steve Daletas growing a 1230 on one vine and a 1016 on the other in 2001?

if possible, i like to pollinate fruit that are on the same vine with the same male pollinator, so that when i have to cut one off i will not lose the cross......
