Assuming only enough space/time for one plant, and only these two options to choose from, which would you go with and WHY - 2624 Willemijns 16 (2145 McMullen x 1872 Willemijns) or the reverse cross 2063 Willemijns 16 (1872 Willemijns X 2145 McMullen)

Most will probably say the 2624. But I'm guessing a genetics expert will say it doesn't matter. Id plant both and go with the strongest plant

Id go with the 2063 cause of the cheaper price. Both seeds are filled out(plump)with the same genetics so its a coinflip on which to try.I used to like the bigger fruit as the pollinator on reverse crosses but I'm over that:)

Plants have three sets of genes. The nuclear genes are the same assortment from gene pool in reciprocal crosses. The maternal plastid genes and mitochondria genes are only there if that plant is used as pod parent. The plastid and mitochondria genes give a lot of characteristics that are not present in pollen parent. They are involved more intimately with chlorophyll, plant energy production, and growth efficiency.

You may as well plant both and pick the stronger one. If you hold one for the next time, there will be a new favorite seed out there and then you don't know which to plant again. Then you have to many good seeds and I hate planting more than four good seeds because that's what I have room for. But you never know what will happen. So plant them both.
