With the 2145 becoming harder to get, who is planning to plant the 800 & what can we expect it to grow?

Mine was the biggest of 9 that made it to a scale .... and I grew 2 2145s ..... plus mine was a nice orange color until hail made them all not look so pretty I’m going to grow it again...

So many times the reverse cross produces nothing close to the original. How many reverses have done anything worthwhile?
1566 Rodonis and 1161 Rodonis are they only pair that come to mind.
We’ll see with the 800 as Joe grew a nice one, but I don’t think it’s a slam dunk.

Don't know-if a few top growers grow it someone will grow a 2000lber and then the floodgates will open.

500 Wallace was a good producer. On paper, the 607 Liggett looks better than the 664, but it never got the planted enough. Pumpkin growers as a whole are moved a bit too much by first impressions. If Mathias Willemijns didn't plant that 2145 last year, we wouldn't be talking about it the same way. There could be 400 seeds in a pumpkin. Some will be outliers- at the high end of the bell curve and the low end of the bell curve. If the low end outliers are planted the first year, our minds are made up and potential records are left in the freezer

I was thinking about this a little more and came up with some good examples...
The 1420/1446 cross worked both ways- 1231 Pukos, 998 Pukos, and 991 Urena
The 845/898 cross worked both ways- 1104 Hester, 1068 Wallace, and 500 Wallace
The 846/845/723 crosses worked both ways- 842 Eaton and 1260 Weir
For all we know, the 800 McMullen could actually be the better of the two- as crazy as that may sound

see joe scherbers reply. a lot of seeds never get the run they deserve because they dont get planted enough.
also, we only hear of the monsters being grown but im sure for every gotta have seed grown, many of the same seed produce much smaller results.
a lot depends on you the grower. Pap

@truckinpunkin : 1068 Wallace/500Wallace , 2145/ 800 McMullen 1566 / 1161 Rodonis and probably 1231/998 Pukos are reverse crosses of the same two plants , in theory the genetic potential of these "twins" should be nearly the same. Other examples you mentioned are crosses coming from the same seeds, genetic differences can be much bigger ("cousins")
