I like the idea and title... any others think a once a year chat on this is worthwile, how would we run it, how many would participate, how long should it run, and anyone elses thoughts about such a thing??? I copied and pasted below a bit from the "hybrid Vigor" thread which made me think many growers might be interested in doing it yearly .

Also may I further purpose We set up a date and time in one of the chat rooms here to hold a discusion on the subject.

Chime in if you would like to get a chat time/date set up and when would be best....

A weekend evening say on a Sunday would work best for me say 7:00 8:00 pm CST or I believe that is 9:00 EST and 6:00 Pacific.... How about the 25th of January....

Throw your two cents in... Maybe some one would like to moderate it as well...

Set up some Friday or Saturday night Ernie. I enjoy the topic of genetic manipulation of Squash strains.

I like the idea... anyone else?

We did this once last year and I think we all got some good input and theories from everyone who took part. It won't be any Niagra stuff...LOL... but yeah, there are lots of thoughts on this subject, so I'm game!

I think it's up to everyone as to a good date and time, just like it's going to be everyones discussion. I may know a good deal of specific things on AG breeding, but others know things I'd like to hear and comprehend to further my research! Thats what it's about, right guys? I could share some of the things I've picked up on, evidence or proof which supports my theories, as others I'm sure can as well.

It sounds like a win win thing to me... we all come out smarter, somehow. OR... we confuse ourselves even more... LMAO!!!

When it comes time to dicuss AG genetics, I'm sorry I have nothing to contribute. But I really do enjoy hearing (reading) what all the accomplished breeders have to say. So please consider this a vote of confidence & Thanks for all the informative breeding conversations that have & will take place.

Thanks!

Great idea. Sure like the idea of a Moderator, and maybe we could have a list of Question for the panel before hand. That way the slow typers like me would get to ask a question
or 2

I will post this on the message board for general discussion also and see if there are more people than those who have replied to this thread. All are excellent ideas, lets just get some more interested people, otherwise, we all can set up any date and any time, Ken and john should put in a genetics chat room...LOL... hell... "G" {Lipumpkin]has his own damn site... squash chat... lol! But as you all know, people usually just pick a chat room where everyone is hanging out.

just thinking out loud here.... food for thought

... plan well...
we can have a general free for all any time we want... that's what chat is. seminar implies organization...
several different classes... a week apart ?
begining... R r - basic traits, basic theory etc-
you are saying maybe we don't need this?... i bet there are many who would tune in.
intermediate... general AG theory - more in depth -cross backs, seeking desirable traits and "hybrid vigor" advanced... long term plans ... what are you going to plant and why! is this a good cross why ? why not ?

take questions in advanced... like a week early...
set a period of time 1-2 hours... ( of course some will want to stay after and chat more)
figure about 1/2 the time for lecture and 1/2 the time for questions.
sent out matterial in advance... ie... some questions with the answers, diagrams, charts, definition (Big R little r) so on), etc... email them - people could print them out and follow along... excel, word, power point, what ever ...

Not bad input... thats what I was hoping to get, ideas just like that! I really like the idea of a couple day thing, hell, even a Monday - Thursday event, giving more time for individuals to speak. Example: Monday Tom Beachy has the room, Tuesday would be Nick Welty,Wednesday would be Joe Atlis, Thursday would be Mike Nepernery.
I think questions should just be answered in the chat room. Each of the speakers have their own personal ideas and theories, nobody agrees totally with the others which is why I think the chat room is the place to answer them. The individuals I've picked in my head to participate might not have time for this, and if they do, I don't think it is fair to expect them to answer 37 questions, post all of the answers, then go in chat room typing forever all night. If something like Neperneys Hybrid Vigor primer explains their views, then no need to re hash them if there is something the speaker can make reference to. Sure, any speaker could write something, create charts, whatever... and Ken and John might put a link in for everyone to go to.

Are the Monday- Thursday speakers good candidates? Are they game to do this?
