Are there performance issues with self pollinations? Thanks

1725 Harp wasn't too bad
1742 Wolf did pretty good this year
1867.5 Barron did well this year.

1971.5Barlow produced a giant also. 2002 deathstar,2150 and 2112 skinner were under achievers.Genetics and their expression are a crap shoot even with selfed seeds.Theres bumps and potholes along the genetic highway which are part of what keeps it interesting- to say the least

I used to think that selfed seeds were not as good. This was just my opinion it was not based on any concrete evidence. Then along came the 1725 Harp and the 2009 Wallace. Those two seeds were hugely important in getting us to where we are today.

The 1625 Gantner has been a big deal too- it’s also a self pollinated seed and has been extremely consistent producing pumpkins heavy to the chart

Squash/pumpkins are routinely self-pollinated to develop new lines in commercial breeding programs. They don't exhibit inbreeding depression. The idea is to fix desirable alleles through selfing and selection. Also, let's not forget, modern AGs are pretty inbred, so even crossing between different stocks is likely not that different from selfing.

I think it’s time we self more seeds to be honest

Chris makes a very good point. Almost 100% of current Atlantic Giants are some combination of 723/845 Bobier, 898 Knauss, 846 Calai, and 712 Kuhn.
