Engel's Great Pumpkins and Carvings

Menomonie, WI (mail@gr8pumpkin.net)

They are the (875Lloyd96 x 909.5Lloyd96) In the future many of the genetics can be found by simply typing "whatever you are looking for" in the Site search box in the upper right corner... No membership needed here. Shannon

I guess my real question is, what is it about the 935 Lloyd genetics that makes it so successful and prevalent in most of the top seeds (is there a Lloyd grandparent or parent that can be identified as the key to the big ones)? Also is there a big and heavy producing seed out there that doesn't have Lloyd in it which would make sense to cross with a descendent of Lloyd genetics to create hybrid vigor? Perhaps the 801.5 Stelts? Or the 869.5 Calai?

The 562 Rose was the "father" of the 801.5 Stelts, but I can not find any genetic info on it. Does it have 935 Lloyd in its family tree?

its a 95 seed so it predates the 97 lloyd. its an 567 mombert x open...not bad:)

Another 935 question: What would be a better substitute for a 935Lloyd seed, a (935xB) or a (Bx935) cross? - Peter

hey you

Greencastle, PA

the 562 Rose was an open pollinated 567 Mombert. One non-Lloyd, heavy producing seed is the 865 Mettler, but it's already been crossed into the 935 a few times like the 723 and 845 Bobier seeds. Another is the 780 Eaton, the 712 Kuhn is a 935 x 780, so the crosses that have been made with a 935 and an unrelated thick walled seed seem to do well, these crosses are a main focus of proving hybrid vigor, take a look at the articles Joe Ailts has written on the subject.

I think both the 875 Lloyd 96 and the 909.5 Lloyd 96 were 687 Lloyd 95 x self.
Some other pre Lloyd favorites

946.5 Geerts 96 (559 Geerts x 824.5 Veens 95)
810 McInnis 96
1006 Greer 96 (697 Ciliberto 94 x 680 Dill 94)
