For the past three years I have been losing plants due to the squash bug. I watch for them and spray as soon as I see them. This seems to be too late. Am needing to be proactive instead of reactive. Does anybody have any suggestions on this. Thanx.

Yes be proactive with weekly insecticides and fungicides. OVGPG website has a great basic and advanced program on their site under the articles tab at the top.

As soon as we have a couple of upper 80 degree days they fly looking for a squash family plant to feast and reproduce on.I believe scent of the plant and any earlier arrived squash bugs is what they go after.Spraying starting in late may is the only thing that gets me a pumpkin to the finish line.You can try trap plants and luring them under boards .The stink bug traps dont work.Must have the wrong scent.

Being proactive is important. Another thing I feel is extremely important is spraying EVERYTHING. I've battled squash bugs and cucumber beetles every year. This year I hardly saw 1, I attribute that to my SR200. Best $400 I ever spent growing giants.

As per usual now, I used BioAdvanced 'Complete' Insect Killer
with Imidacloprid and like B-Triflurthran or SOMEthing, lol.
It is just 1 TBSP. per gallon of H2O and applied in a foliar fashion; I was seeing cuke beetles and Squashers at the same time of plant length of about 6 feet when I applied it. Did not see another Squash bug all season; Did I kill the last of their species? Cucumber beetles I just seem to live with once my plants are all grown up---eric g

WiZZy I am in no east colo. had my largest pumpkin from one of your seeds. How will I be able to access this info. Thanx. Was wondering if a sestimic insecticide was an option. I should have access to some. Thanx fora y info and all other posts.

You can use imidicloprid(merit) as a systemic.It will keep the #'s down and in combination with a good contact like talstar or cyanara can be effective.
