I was wondering when choosing which seeds to cross. Do you consider the parents or grandparents of the perspective seeds or both?

Both. The grandparents are simply the parents of the parents. If you care about the grandparents: well, they made the parents. So you look really as far back as you can. Alex.

Sam...you'll look at the heirarchy tree in general but alot depends on what you're wanting to do. If you're looking to reinforce existing genetics then you can look past the parents and see what's in the greater background for crossbacks.
If you're more inclined to cross 2 seed for combining genetics from two backgrounds into a single stand-alone entity, you'll look at the complete picture but might focus on the current parents and their current genetic traits you're looking to merge...make sense? Keep in mind tho', when crossing seed, try to find some common lineage for a more consistent and stable producer..ie: maybe a line of 935 Lloyd common to both for example. Mixing up four completely different grandparents with no commonality may give you a seed that may, or may not, pop a biggun', but you can surely expect the seed to be an inconsistent *traits* producer.
