This is my first year to seriously attempt to grow a Giant Pumpkin. I sent away for seeds, not knowing what I'd be getting, and this is what I got. Seems like a promising cross. I'd like to hear any thoughts on what I can expect with it. I'm hoping for a good orange color, and a nice shape(not too flattened). I think this cross may fit the bill. Thanks!

The 953 Langevin was a beautiful orange, round pumpkin. The 1260 Weir was not. You will probably will get something in between.

Actually the 1260 has been known to throw some nice color itself, nothing jaw-dropping but better than most.
The 953, for all it's beauty, was pollinated with a non-color seed that has 935 Lloyd prevalent in it....bad choice in my opinion but probably all that was available at the time.
But like Russ said, it'll probably be somewhere in the middle. Ya' never know, but the shape should be good and it very well may weigh pretty heavy OTC.

I grew two 1260 weirs last year and each was a great orange color.

I guess I'll just wait and see what I get(smile).
I really don't know how large I can expect it to get, as this is my first 'serious' attempt. I do have "How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins vol.3, and vol. 2 is on the way. My germination techniques need perfecting, as only got one plant so far, out of 10 seeds(2 different strains) started.
The plant is ready to plant out(I'll likely set it out this Friday). There is hope for some late germination on a few of the other started seeds.

you might be able to save a few of those other seeds by putting the pots or whatever on a heating pad with a towel between the pots and the heating pad set on medium. i've never tried it, but you MAY get a highter germination rate if you are not already applying heat for a nice 85-90 max. soil temp......eric
