Has anyone used straw in your pumpkin patch? I’m pondering it to cover the vines once they are buried. Help with weed control and water retention in the soil. In theory it would also give a great cover for the whole root system and aid with Mycro fungi growth as well. Let me know if it’s worth trying. Next year planning.

Its worth trying. Straw is very good for the soil and I think it contains minerals that help the pumpkin plant thrive. My main concern about straw is whether it might have any herbicides or weed seeds, also that the soil underneath it wont be too cold or too damp. Applying it thinly will cause the least # of potential problems.

I have used it too,I am not sure if i would use it over the the top of vines because it may promote rot..... but also who knows, it may work for you.
