I have a 582 Hester plant that is in my main (home) patch and I am having trouble deciding what to pollinate it with. I do not have access to AGGC so if anyone would like to leave their opinion and why I would love to hear it. My potential pollinators will be.... Self,842 Eaton, 869.5 Calai, 1225 Jutras, 960 Rose, 1028 Carlson and 978.6 Berard. Thanks in advance for your help! Oh ya, of course the seeds from my 1000 plus lb pumpkin will be given out to anyone who wants them..LOL! THANKS, Mike Frantz

I would pollinate it with either the 869 or the 1225. Good Luck

Why pull the plant? How about pollinating it with a weed wacker? Lord knows its quicker.....LOL
Self it every year for a while. According to AGGC, it's never been selfed. But it has been crossed with the 846 once & the 723/845 too many times. Why not try something different?

The 582 gave me a nicely shaped pumpkin last year. Cross the 582 with the Jutras. The 1225 was one of the nicest looking pumpkins I have seen. Both bright orange and well shaped. This cross would hopefully make a good combination of shape and color.

I am growing the 582 as well this year and it is the worse behaved plant I've ever had...on top of being double/flat vined and wanting to grow straight up in the air. I would definitely not want to breed these qualities into future generations but would pollinate it with the 869.5 Calai definitely!
The F2 offspring should then have about 25% chance of producing big like the 582 but with the nice color and fine growing charachteristics of the 869.5. Best of luck to ya! Michel in Germany

Not a bad idea southern, I am getting really excited about my 978.6 as it is a fantastic looking and agressive plant.
