I'm wondering what the reasons are for sibbing or selfing a seed. Is it to get a more inbred strain of seed to cross with another not very related, inbred strain, to create some hybrid vigor?
If I'm correct, the 735 Pukos is a 846 Calai X self. It has proven itself well.
Are selfing and sibbing done for the same reasons? Is one preferred over the other?

All the seeds from the same pumpkin are very similar but not perfectly identical. The purpose of sibbing is to mix the genes from a particular cross more thouroughly so that the offspring give a more consistent result. Selfing would give you an even more isolated mix of genes from the one particular seed that you grew.
