Can anybody tell me where this list can be accesed for the seven hundred plus pumpkins grown in 2003? And where will the 2004 list be posted? Thanks!

You can download the AG lite program, it has most every seed grown and the genetics.

really nice program, follow the directions if you don't have MS access installed on your machine.

Ever hear of the AGGC? I'm sure whomever put this AG Lite (formerly AGGC Lite) thing together has as they've blatantly ripped the folks at the AGGC off. Its unfortunate the internet has made stealing other people's hard work so easy. No wonder the AGGC has gotten so selective in its recuriting of new members.

AG lite is a really nice program for those who are not serious breeders but who want to understand the hot seeds or simply gather good "gee whiz" information on monsters and their lineage. I don't believe it is an attempt to rip off the AGGC but rather supply information that is in growing demand and that is floating around on diverse spreadsheets and lists across the country. I don't believe the AGGC is the only repository on the planet for AG data and in this information age will surely not be the last.

I reluctantly but respectfully understand why the AGGC has constrained membership growth. Rather than get AGitated I would rather see more people come up with and encourage open databases such as the AG lite. Thanks to the AG light I no longer feel like the loser kid who was not picked on the dodge ball court in elementary school.

3 cheers for the AG lite! Group hug for all.....

Copying information from the AGGC site and distributing it as your own product doesn't strike me as a very honorable effort. From what I gather, the AGGC effort is the culmination of years of hard work from a group of very devoted people. No shortcuts there, just lots of time and determination. "3 cheers for the AG Lite"? More like "two thumbs down".

May I mention again that I was wondering in the first place where I could find Marv Hick's yearly seven hundred pounder list (it says in World Class Giant Pumpkins III that he does one every year)? Thanks!

I believe it is not available online, you have to request the list from Marv directly via email...

AGitate,
Most of us wouldn't even know that there was a AGGC lite program as we can't get in.
I am not the person who developed it, but I am going to use it to try to better understand the different genetics out there.
I agree with ValuePack.

In fact I think I remember it being created based on various growers seed lists.

The AG Lite file was compiled from public data sent to Brent Richey by the growers of this site. We all keep lists of the seeds we have and their crosses. AG Lite is nothing more than a simple MS Access database put together from numerous seeds lists received directly from the growers.

In any case, the data contained in the AGGC site is not copyrightable. To say the data contained in the AG Lite file is stolen is like trying to copyright the words in a dictionary. However, the AGGC site layout, macros, etc. are copyrightable and are actually what makes the AGGC site such a powerful tool. Contact a copyright attorney in your area and they will tell you the same thing. The AGGC is a great site, no doubt about it. Its current members have access to the best genetics tool out there....but for whatever reason, it can't fulfill the needs of the entire pumpkin growing community.

Us new growers don't have the brains to use the data properly anyway....so what's the big deal? It has to be just like giving a 2 year old the detailed plans of the latest top secret military venture. Let the Generals use the plans to bring the world to its knees and let us play with the pretty papers and stare at the squiggly lines.

I personally don't see a problem with making a simple list of genetics available to everyone....regardless of whether or not he/she is deemed to be worthy of access to said information. It's very sad that current members can't even post cross information on this board to help another grower without being afraid of losing their access. That is what this is all about right?? Helping eachother? I personally wouldn't have a single pumpkin growing in my patch if it weren't for the generosity and kindness of all the growers who have offered their help and wisdom.

Brian,
Could not have said it better, one thing, we do have the brains to use the info, and that is what we are trying to do, learn what the seeds are all about, this is not a secret society, the more us rookies learn, the better we can make this sport.
No matter what info we get our hands on, it can't replace the experience the senior growers have, for anyone to think that giving rookies info is dangerous, is retarded.
Lets not forget that everyone had to learn, you were not born knowing how to grow.....

Brian,

Your argument that the AG(GC) Lite application was put together solely from donated seed lists would have held more water had you not gone on to point out that the data on the AGGC site is not copywritable. Its obvious a lot of the data was indeed copied right from the AGGC site as there is no way a lot of those AG(GC) Lite pumpkins are on anybody's seed lists. You can spin this one anyway you want kids but the bottom line is that taking someone else's work and putting you name on it is just plain wrong. Claiming you did it to help others doesn't change matters. Neither does proclaiming yourself to be brainless.

You can fool some of the people some of the time. This isn't one of those times. Sorry for the rant but the only 3 cheers and group hug I'm giving is for the AGGC and the people behind it.

That's all I have to say.

its pretty bad that even camera himself had to re-iterate the question. this conversation is way out of hand. computer free, i have marv's 700 list in front of me thanks to the ohio valley giant pumpkin growers' newsletter. this question had nothing to do with the aglite or aggcc or agtz or agixl or anything of the sort.

Martin,
Why do you call yourself a rookie?
You've certainly proven yourself in these terrible conditions the past three years in Germany where you can
be lucky sometimes to hit a few hundred pounds.
Just wait till next year!
