Anyone interested in these genetics, even tho' from small pumpkins? Seed are quite large, mature, and full....(the 276# seed remind me of the 481 Hester seed, trying to bust out of the shell)

276# EST (1260 Weir x 580 Weir)...1260 x reverse cross
175# EST (572 Andrews x 1260 Weir)..1260 x sibb X 1260

what data do you have on shape, rib, stem qualities, and thickness of flessh? Any info on uniformity of wall thickness distribution would also be good in determining the ultimate quality of these seeds

Nic,
Well no, I didn't record data per se other than regular OTT measures, and when I sprayed. My eyeballs did just fine providing me with info on their shape, how those ribs looked, and I took photos. I can tell you how thick they were when cut open, and where they were thinnest...pretty much like most pumpkins....thick at shoulders, thin at blossom.
They were small pumpkins, good shape, thick walls (but of course because they were small), and the genetics are great if you like the 1260 Weir seed....that would cover it.
The ultimate determination of the quality of a seed is it's progeny, nothing else.

I'll try the 175. I'm putting in three plants in the spring, which will be my first true year growing. I am also putting in a 710 Gipe, but after reading one of DocGipes posts, I am a little worried about germination (he says the germination rate is down to 50%). If they both germinate, I'll make room for both even if I have to give up 400 sq ft of corn. I am curious about seeds from small pumpkins after reading a previous thread on this topic. If they never/rarely get planted, there could be a veritable gold mine of great pumpkins going to waste every year. Of course the results of my attempt won't mean much, being a first year grower and all. I wouldn't expect a heavey hitter to give up prime patch space on an untested, small-pumpkin seed, but I have nothing to loose, and everything to gain. If I grow a small pumpkin with it, it can be chalked off to my lack of skills as a first year grower, but if I pull a big one out there would be no reason not to grow from small-pumpkin seeds. Shoot me an e-mail with your info, and I'll send you a bubble. Thanks.

germination can be higher than that if you exercise a few tricks, and are careful not to overheat the seeds. I saw Doc's post and was sorta surprised he said that.

Kyle, I am interested in the Hester X Weir seeds. you have mail.
