Hi I am from Canada and I am going to try growing pumkins next year for size, and I was wondering if anyone has any seeds that they could send to me to get me started. All I have at this time are regular pumkin seeds. Thanks - Desi

It should be mentioned to newer growers that seeds from smaller fruits theoretically have the same potential as seeds from the 1000/+lbs pumpkins. The only thing that counts is the cross!

Pictures of all pumpkins can be found in my diary entries from the last three to four weeks on Bigpumpkins.com.
All were an awesome orange color and should even improve with the crosses I made. The only one that was not as deeply orange was the fruit on the 1016 Daletas as the vine rotted off and the pumpkin wasn't able to mature and orange up.

Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on you, even though you slapped the hell out of my pumpkin this year and wiped off all my sulpur off not to mention the gouge you put in it.

I'll offer a lending hand and some seed, hell you can't be any worse of a grower than Dean (shmow)

I'm not sure about the shipping situation but some Canadian grower should probably hook him up such as yourself.
Martin's 801.5 x Self is probably a great seed but it would be ashame if they were confiscated at the border. Maybe somebody should update me on the phyto certificate deal.
Is it a problem shipping seeds from Canada to the US or the opposite....and is there any problems shipping from Germany to Canada?

Problems only arise when sending seeds to the USA. It doesn't matter if they come from Canada, Germany or any other country though.
And, from my experience, only about 5% of the shipments got lost/confiscated.

Shipments to Canada and to Germany from all counties are no problem.

PS: Michel, I will make sure to set aside a few 801.5 X self seeds for you although there have only been 111 of them. All other 200 to 300 seeds inside the 801.5 were hollow.

Pretty well the same situation here Martin with my 790 x 419 seeds.
I took out about 450 but only between 150 and 200 are good.
I only want a few of yours...maybe 3 good ones if you would be so kind. Make sure the three you send all can produce big and orange though ok?!!!! LOL

I just got a seed from Peter Fei in Germany with no problems. It's all how you handle it.....do not go in and declare anything that is "perishable"! I was asked what was in my return package to Peter and I said it was small lapel pin as a gift..."Oh, OK, that'll be 85 cents please", was what I was told.
If you admit it's seed then you're asking for trouble. With the billions of pieces of mail sent worlwide each year, do you think your undeclared small package will get scrutinized? If you have a green declaration sticker on it, don't you think it'll have a greater chance of getting a second glance?
Say it's a sock, book, card, pin, bookmark, small seashell, whatever...just don't say it's a seed!

Perhaps it would be wise to attach a safety pin to the seed so that it really is a lapel pin. This way the sender isn't purgering themself. It might make a darn snappy fashion statement at Niagara too. The customs guys won't give us much grief if we WEAR our seeds home!

I never declare seeds on the customs sticker, in fact I use no customs sticker at all, but still about 5% get lost.

I guess that the officers at the border randomly open packages and that is what happens to 5% of my seed mailings to the US.

Ernie you and Dean should forget Pumpkins and go on the comedy circuit. Thank you for your offer of the seed, I am still hoping to get my patch prepared before freeze up, but until combining is done I can't commit to it. I will call you as soon as I am done. I had a 56lb.(WOW} pumpkin this year. My patch grew about 120 pumpkins and I gave them to the Moose Jaw Judo club and they sold them and raised $400.00 for the club. - Desi
