Is ther any good producing seeds that have proven them selves in the pumpkin growing community that i ccan still get a hold of. Seeds that produce 1000 pounders consistently.

wait for an auction. LOTS of auctions start popping up after new year. Lots of people get GOOD seeds this way, and they give money to charity, simultaneously. Seeds that you would otherwise never be able to get your hands on show up at the auctions.

The only seed that *consistently* produce 1000#+ pumpkins, are the ones tried by the experienced growers that have top-notch soil. In other words...none.
It's not the seed primarily, it's the knowledge and work that consistently produce 1000#+ pumpkins. You'll hear it a thousand times, and because it's true, but to *consistently* produce large pumpkins requires...
1. good soil
2. experience and planning (some mistakenly call it luck)
3. good seed
It takes much more than seed my friend. If it was all in the seed, we'd all be members of the 1000# club.

PS...Toby's right, check out the auctions for the "hot" seed that are relatively unattainable. Bring your checkbook and lots of zeros though :0)

the seeds that you claim you have already or are going to get have awesome crosses that should do well for you if the conditions and growing techniques that you use are appropriate. if you haven't already, get the Don Langevin book, "How-to-Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins, Volume 2"
you will learn about much more than just what seeds to get.
i would not recommend getting volume 1 or 3 first! V2 is good; excellent winter reading.......

Volume 3 definitely gets into areas not covered at all in the other volumes; more for the serious grower. Goes into the fields of fertilizer and pruning that have different info from the other books. Why not get all three?

Hey southern thanks for the advice. Still getting my booble packs and crap together. I will send you a SABP though. I've just been busy. If your right, (and i know you are) about the consistency of producing 1000+ Pumpkins, than i'm sure on my way. Pumpkinpal 2, I have all the books. I got my seeds from Don too. They came out of the 627 Hampton. This year was my first year growing and without the knoledge i gained i couldn't have grown my 729.5 pounder this year. Well i better be savin' my mony up for those auctions. The only way i could come up with some mony right now is going into the hospital and doing one those experiments. Even then i'd only $800. And at auctions thats about enough for two seeds the way i've herd it. LOL

I just ordered it,lol,
someone told me 1 and 2 was reaL good so i bought them, and the reason i didnt buy vol 3 was because someone told me its wasnt as good as 1 or 2,lol

oh, it's AS GOOD, just on a higher level of intricacy
and a lot more detailed (redundant are my comments)
in pretty much all areas of the growing experience.
there is this one chapter in there about pumpkin
statistics; average means below the deviant quadrangle
plus the sum of the two parent weights=the possible weight potential of the seed in question.....
(not exactly what it says, but,...)
so, i probably skipped ahead for a while and then went back to it and finished it, still shaking, lol! all i know is, when i saw that the 1140 Stelts' parent pumpkin weights were 705 Stelts and 435 Grindle, i added THOSE numbers up.
WOW! that's all i need to know in the pumpkin statistics department! and, i asked a very knowledgeable guy named Mike N. and he said that may have been the only time THAT has happened: ma's wt. + pa's wt. = child's wt., exactly.
i just WISH i had made more of a stir about those numbers when i first got the 1140 seeds in like early '01..... would have been a big deal then......STILL IS to me!!!
ANYWAY, all three volumes are excellent, i just started out with volume 2 and then got 1 and then 3 came out....
they are ALL necessary reading.
AJG----"booble packs"? LOL! i like it!
i hope these "experiments" aren't life threatening, especially not to me. lol.
i would EXPECT an 845, 842 and an 801.5 to be in the
300-350 dollars range, probably for STARTERS.
and we can forget affording a 723. all i know is, i can't WAIT for the auctions! have a good one,><><><><><><><eric

Thanks Eric. That's pretty interesting about the 1140. All i know aboutthe medical study ( wich i should of said instead of "experiment") is it's for a vaccine of some sort. So i doubt it's any thing dangerous.

AJG,
Are you sure you want to invest a lot of money in just a couple of seeds? I've heard some people say they've done better with their own seeds, than some of the "hot" proven ones.
I've bought seeds for up to $25, but wouldn't want to pay much more. Maybe if I check out the auctions, I'll be impulsive and change my mind(especialy if a 869.5 Calai comes up):-)
Any way, just another thing for you to consider.

Regards,
Doug

Hey Doug.

I do not plan on ivesting $400 in one seed. The highest i think i'll go is $100

keep it open AJG--don't show anyone your cards...
if anyone knows you can or only will go so high, they
have a better idea of what they have to do to beat you.

i'm not just referring to pumpkin seeds and auctions;
i mean anywhere, in life in general. and no, i don't feel that is how anyone on this site operates, but there may be one or two that would use one's financial limit to their
advantage---i'm past my bedtime----you'll know i mean well.

I really don't know how high i might go if it's a really, really, really good seed.

Dang, I think of all the seeds we have "roasted" during germination failures and I coulda retired!
