Plants are growing very well and pollinating time has arrived. Cross idea's between the following? -

845 Bobier 00 (935 Lloyd 97 x 865 Mettler)
805 Pukos 00 (1092 Burke 98 x 723 Bobier)
876 Mombert 03 (1005 Mombert 02 x 845 Bobier 00)
1301.5 Eaton 03 (842 Eaton 02 x 1236 Eaton 02)

Thinking to self the 805.....
876 Mombert x 845 Bobier, and add even more 935x865
1301.5 Eaton x 805 Pukos, heavy fruit?
845 x 1301.5, add some 846 to the cross

Good cross idea's? Any of these seeds crossed should create good seedstock, as the genetics are definately there! I'm open to opinion's, and most interested in the reasoning behind cross suggestions!

You guys enjoying my diary entries? Hopefully I can grow something decent this year and keep you guys keen!

Thanks for any advice, Ben

Ben-
I love your diary, it keeps me going through the winter !!! I'd wager that it reduces my argumentative state by 50%. We could use a few more southern hemisphere growers diaries to lower it even more ! :)

Ben...I think with that group its all the same and any "differences" that you may try to pin on "the cross" from this year will be more due to individual plants and thier genetic expression than anything else. They are so closely related you best cross by your percieved best plant (or dust off the time machine and chose your daddy by which one grew the best fruit come October ...oops....MAY !LOL). If you haven't gotten over the common feeling that you want everyone to grow your seeds then cross by 805 or 1301 since they are the current Buzz-names......G

Ben...please give everyone here who's sending out seeds a brief description of what the Australian AG police want on the bubbles sent to you.
P.S.....you live anywhere near P.Sherman on Wallaby Lane??

keep it up ben, i always enjoy reading your diary.
you tell it like it is, good or bad, and that's cool.
the 1301.5 is a great grower. strong vines and heat
resistant like you posted. it might make a nice male
pollinator for any of the others for your climate
consideration crosses. if you could cross your 1301
with the 741 eaton, i would love a couple of those seeds
because i have the opposite cross and would like to
keep al's reverse line cross strategy continued.
but the availablity of male flowers on the mornings
of pollination will ultimately help to decide which
crosses to make. all should cross with each other nicely,
i would think.

I would try to use the 1301 as the male for all of the other plants and cross the 1301 with the 845.

Thanks for the advice guys, all makes sense!
Glenn your right about them all being closely related, good advice to cross based on genetic expression! All 4 plants are beauties so far, guess it will come down to whats available on the day, any of the pollen will do as long as the fruit starts growing towards 1000 pounds... lol. Wish I had a time machine....
Jeff, glad to hear you enjoy the diary, as I do yours during winter. Good to hear your experience with the 1301.5, hope I can do as well with it as you did! I'll see how I go getting 741 pollen to the 1301.5, so busy I'm struggling to get to the Castlereagh patch once a week!
Jason, like your cross idea's too, thanks. The 1301x845 sounds good, might just have to make that one! ... Ben
